The LG is super light at the cost of feeling flimsy

I'm typing on my 2014 MacBook Pro which runs like a champ on the original battery. Crazy how good Apple products are and how bad LG products are.
The 15" Macbook pro retailed for $2399 in 2014, which is equivalent to $3200 today. Only more than 4x the cost of this laptop.

I don't understand why so many laptops have soldered ram. Is it just cheaper to manufacture?
They will claim it's for performance because the ram is closer to the CPU when it doesn't have to go through a SO-DIMM slot, but I call BS on that. It facilitates absurd upgrade costs and planned obsolescence. Thanks, Apple.

Had a LG Gram 13 a few years ago and it was one of the lightest laptops I've ever owned. After a year of light use, the battery sensor started failing where it would shut off even when the battery was at 100% and then would not turn back on unless I plugged in for a few seconds. Happened infrequently enough that it didn't bother me back then. Two years in, the issue frequency increased that it basically made the laptop unreliable to carry anywhere with limited outlets.

If you switch laptops every 2-3 years, probably nothing to worry about. Tbh I probably just got a bad batch, but at the same time, one bad experience is enough for me.
Can handy users replace the battery on a Gram?

The Costco reviews show a problematic and difficult experience for many users that has put me off of this otherwise seemingly great deal.

I have to agree with the mostly unfavorable Costco reviews. A very annoying thing is the keyboard backlight only stays on for under a minute. then you have to hunt for the FN key and then press backlight key, ditto for volume too. I bought one and returned it to Costco. Battery life terrible, and contacting "tech support" who has been outsourced overseas a joke.

A far better option for me at least was go get the HP DragonFly laptop coming in at only 2.2 pounds versus the 2.8 pounds of the LG gram. There are plenty of them on Ebay refurbished for around $700-$1,000 and many have a one year warranty

I've been waiting for a Lenovo Slim Pro 9i, but wow this seems like a lot of laptop for a great price and low weight to boot.
I have the slim 9i and the LG Pro. Lenovo quality in my opinion has gone down the drain. I am a long time lenovo user. LG Pro has issues, but way way better than 9i

You're basing LG products being bad on one person's issues with it and Apple products being good on your personal experience? BTW, your 2014 MacBook Pro was much more expensive than this, and almost 2 pounds heavier. Not even remotely comparable items.

How is Costco with laptop returns? Do they give you any trouble?
Not at all. If opened, they will look it over to make sure complete. They do not turn it on or test it.
I have had to return a few in my day.
Possible YMMV, depending on your warehouse's specific manager's policy.
I have returned unopened and opened laptops. Costco is pretty much the best source for these because of the 90-day returns and 2nd year warranty. They just don;t always have the best price.

had an LG G4 smartphone with a hardware defect / design flaw too.

seems par for the course. I have an LG TV, washer, and dryer, but will avoid anything portable by them.

Great deal for a LG gram with touchscreen - the weight is amazing and bq is solid - have owned several over the years (including a 2023 LG Gram Pro 16 with the 3050) and have found them all super durable and portable.

I also find the 16 inch to be the perfect size for a Gram. 17 is just a bit too big for on the go and at coffee shops imho. 14 is ok but for such a light weight I think this is the perfect size.
Does anyone know if the screen opens 180° to flat?
