After owning a couple MBAs I probably won't buy one with 8gb of ram ever again. 16GB or bust. It's 2024. Apple should make this standard.

I'm new to mac and glad I bought only 16GBs during microcenter craziness.. I also bought 13 M3 8GB bought for 790.. ( 16GB wasn't available or BB didn't have that stock..) Only reason I kept this 8GB is because of the price and usage is for a kid.. What kinda workload you get this message for???

From my limited perspective, I do video and photography as a hobby, and I used to believe that 8 GB is enough for MacOS due to how "optimized" their software is.

However, I was proven to be very wrong after owning both MBAs of 8GB 256GB and 16GB and 512 GB -- the 8 GB 256 GB spec of the MBA is severely underperforming the 16 GB 512 GB spec for processing videos and photos. (For example, importing the same amount of photos (~500) on Lightroom Classic takes > 1 hour vs <10 mins). So, it was a no-brainer to return the 8 GB 256 GB as soon as possible.

However, for college works such as PowerPoints, documentation, or web browsing, which are used 98% of the time, 8 GB 256 GB is more than enough, considering its weight and how long the battery lasts on a single charge.

Got it.. Have 16GB M3 15 inches for that.. Either way a 8 more GB for ~400$ didn't justify for me..

Imagine how popular all these deals would be if you could upgrade the RAM and SSD after the fact.

As it is ... Apple is pumping out "soon to be e-waste"

Shameful

Back in COVID days, I purchased two Airs for the kids and just traded in one, a 2020 i5, 8GB, 256GB and got $360. I was like wadda fug!
I then sold the second one for $440 on Facebook and I was like, wadda fug!

I am a windows user and after 4 years of usage, I typically drive down to the City's free e-Waste site to drop them off. No way I would ever imagine that these will be worth anything. I guess when Apple gets you hooked, they get you hooked!

EXACTLY. My 1500 Top of the line Thinkpad will fetchme like $25 and some random 2016 Macbook BB took in for like $350.. Waddafug??.. So I didn't feel guilty for Dropping 3.5K on 3 macbook airs for my kida.. LOL..

I will think about Macbricks when Apple can match the BEST keyboards/trackpads in the world and match the weight and feel of Thinkpads..

The reason BB gives you high trade-ins is because old macs still keep running and
the poor/hourly wage fans want to buy a 7 year laptop called Macbook because its from apple....

I've owned it for over 3 years but only the past month or so I've been getting the warning. My guess is that I've been doing the Coursera google data analytics course and for the final project, I opened up each of the csv files in excel, and when I look at the resource manager, it's showing excel is taking up over 2 gigs of memory 😮

I also hate that there's no type-c port on right hand side, even for 15". Must buy the MBP if you want the convenience, what a shame.

Based on the consistent M2 sales over the past year we KNOW this will inevitably drop down to $999, so I personally wouldn't bite at any price above that.
