This is such an insanely compromised gaming solution for $600.

It is an odd Chrome laptop but appears to be going for Cloud gaming. Probably does it fantastically. Niche market but a market nonetheless.

Cant fathom pursuing cloud gaming over just buying a ps5 or xbox series x. if you go used, you can buy both... or just a normal mid range gaming pc.

Perhaps some people cannot fathom pursuing a single use device that is tethered to a static location.

This could be used as a Xbox, AND a PS5, AND a gaming PC. Plus is extremely portable and compact (travel, dorm, barracks, etc) Not bad for $600...brand new. And being it is a Chromebook aka Linux machine can do anything a normal PC can do as well. In contrast my PS5 is horrible at email and spreadsheets and the last time I tried to take my Xbox to the airport the crazies at RDU complained when I disconnected a random TV in the terminal so I could play Call of Duty Wink

Some quick thoughts:
  • I have the 8GB version of this laptop and it is absolutely outstanding. Wonderful hardware (screen, keyboard, trackpad, speakers) and the OS flies with the internals.
  • I don't game, but I bet it does cloud gaming quite well
  • Acer certified refurbished sells the 8GB versions for $300, and sometimes less with various eBay promos (here [ebay.com]). It's currently OOS, but likely to go back in stock at some point.

this absolutely will not function as a gaming pc. game streaming can be done on any phone available just as effectively, but it is inherently compromised... this thing is an absurdly awful value for money proposition.

Always funny when someone cannot "fathom" something for their use so they blanket apply their use case to the other 8,000,000,000 people on earth. An inherently compromised line of thinking. Like I said.... niche market but a market nonetheless.

And yes, this will function as a $600 'gaming' laptop as long as you understand what $600 buys combined with this CPU, screen, ram, and controller. But yes, if you can get a basic GTX 3050 laptop for less yet might not do the whole steaming thing as well nor will it likely have a comparable screen, backlit keyboard, and probably only 8GB of ram. Not to mention it will get a 1/4 of the battery life while still weighing 5+ pounds. You also won't need that 3050 for steaming if that is your goal. If steaming isn't your goal then no amount of complaining will change this SKU's configuration to suit your needs.

Bottom line it sounds like this machine was not built for you. Good luck with whatever route you decide to take.

it's likely not built for anyone who is even remotely concerned about value for money, as I suspect 100% of slickdeals.net users probably are.

Just a wild guess: you go Harley Davidson dealerships complaining about trailer tow ratings against a Chevy 1500 and compare "values" verses a Ford Fiesta...all because you got off at the wrong bus stop?

Clearly you are barking up the wrong tree. No shame in admitting it but I cannot help you here. Once again, good luck in whatever you choose.

BTW, feel free to post a better (and comparable) vAlUe fOr mOnEy otherwise the dead horse would like to be left in peace Dead Horse

Bye bye

That is oddly specific, I don't know anything about towing harley davidsons. I do know a lot about gaming, and game streaming is not worth sinking $600 into on any platform, let alone on chromeOS. running a game on native hardware will be superior to streaming 99.98% of the time, and there are much better options for less money.

this was literally in the similar deals tab. this will outperform the chrome book in every metric except for boot time and battery life, but realistically, if someone is lugging around a 16" laptop and is a big enough nerd to be gaming on an RGB laptop in public, they are probably bringing a laptop charger with them. lmao

Ooooooh, the mythical 16GB version.

I own the 8GB version. I'm typing on it now. It's an outstanding device and it works GREAT with GeForce Now at the Ultimate tier. But $599? Insane. I could never see a gaming Chromebook worth that amount of money. Hell, I bought a 4050 based Acer for $60 more than that. $599 is just absolutely crazy.

As another poster said, go find the 8GB version on eBay for $299. That's the one I bought, refurbished from the Acer store (love those Acer refurbs).

It really is a great device. The screen is magnificent. Makes for a great run-of-the-mill laptop. You won't be disappointed (unless you paid $599)
