if you trade in an old amazon device, you'll get a 20% off coupon that gets applied to this kindle. just look below the price on the kindle paperwhite page, you'll see a link that says 'Save 20% with Trade-In'
Oh ok. I had a brand new kindle paperwhite (older gen with 6''screen) that I never used and its trade-in value is $5 Big Grin

Interesting to see if there is a device that is worth trading in. Kindle Scribe is something that always fascinated me but it is also the lowest rated kindle to date I believe. And none of the reviews I have seen were completely positive about it. Must resist at this price for now (coz I dont think I have any Kindle that's worth 20% off. Only have Tab S7, S7+, S9Ultra)

yeah the trade in values don't make sense. old paperwhites can be $5, but my base model kindle from 5 years ago was worth $15 lol

You just gotta take the scribe for what it is and base your decision on that. I wanted a large ereader like the DX and the scribe is exactly that. I was 100% satisfied

most reviews and the initial marketing just focused on the half baked writing and note functionality. a lot of reviews I saw/read only mentioned the ereader experience for a single sentence.

You should double-check what they're offering you again - I think it's most likely 20% off PLUS a $5 gift card, not just the $5 gift card.

Anyone use this to read in bed? Is it too heavy to hold one handed lay flat in bed? I read in bed every night with my Oasis. It doesn't feel uncomfortable even after an hour. The larger screen is enticing.

Thanks!
Same here. I missed the Kindle DX a decade ago and have been looking for a larger eInk device. The note taking features are nice to have but not really necessary so the basic pen should be good enough for me. I do wish there were physical page turn buttons like the Kindle Oasis, though.
DX fan here too! I used it to read uni PDFs back in the day. I think it was more like 13 years ago joe. Wasn't the smoothest experience but way easier on the eyes than an ipad.

I got this as an upgrade to my dx. I thought I would miss the page turn buttons but I actually prefer touch now.

I use it for reading manga, here's a dx vs scribe manga comparison. Keep in mind a manga volume is 100-200mb. Biggest upgrade is 300 ppi vs 150 ppi and much faster page turns. I got the 64 gb though.

no issues with the weight at all. it weighs less than any full size ipad, and I've never heard of anyone complaining about those being heavy

Do you know if the earlier complaints were resolved via software updates?

"The device is a little bit heavy for reading comfortably in bed."

Found this on the review from Best Buy site.

Which ereader is the best for reading screenplays with light annotations?
Imo
For an eink tablet
https://us.kobobooks.com/products...2904352838

A larger 10" screen + backlight.

Otherwise,
EBay for the used sp6 $250~ + ciscle / renaisser surface pens $35~.

I personally prefer the surface because I can jump into Final Draft and write out scripts and such any time. And fully compatible with any pc software because...it's a pc.

....

But for an eink, definitely not Amazon because they try to lock you in and lock you down, making it harder to dump files in.

I have a 2013 6th Kindle with no option to trade in. There's an option for the 5th. Do I just choose that and cross my fingers?

I own both the Scribe and the Remarkable 2. As mentioned, the downside to the Remarkable is lack of backlight. This may or may not be a deal breaker, depends on where you are using the device - a bright office, not a problem at all. In contrast, even infrequently, using in a dimmed room with a projection system on would be a huge no-go as you'd see nothing.

Despite the backlight, the Scribe didn't offer enough to be a true paper substitute device as does the Remarkable (with backlight issue in consideration). The Scribe for example auto-powers off which to me is a deal-killer since paper is always available to write on, you don't have to push a button first to use it. The Remarkable will stay on indefinitely until power is out which can be somewhere in the 12 hour range with wifi turned off, so you can use it like how paper really is.
