Agreed. After reading the horror stories I'd never deal with them directly. Sometimes they have similar deals on their Amazon store for only a few dollars more. Worth looking for the peace of mind of a return is warranted.

Checked..

The 32gb/1tb is $529, worth the extra cost imo. No waiting months for a shipment.

Unless you are in a hurry, 7840s are dropping in price rapidly as the 8000 series is becoming available.

And the strix/9000 minis will be out this fall, driving down the 8000 series. Yes, tech gets cheaper in time, but you have to dive in at some point. Wait till you need it, then buy it, accepting that it will likely be cheaper in a few months.

I've read that Beelink is MUCH more reliable and stand behind their products. They also don't need to be reset like minisforum. I wish we had more reputable companies making some of these low cost mini PCs with good ryzen chips. Lenovo makes some but they cost more and are power hungry Intel chips. Asus makes a super expensive one with a GPU but too big for VESA mounts behind a monitor.

Does anyone know of better options?

No hate for the brand I have the MS-01 as my firewall and its running 10gb routing with VPN, IPS, etc and its a beast.

But this doesnt feel worth it, and no ethernet is a deal breaker for me.

USB dongles I just dont feel they are as reliable for full time use, they are used as tools for me in the technical space.

For $35-ish more, I would recommend the Trigkey S7 at amazon over this. This one has ethernet and the memory is upgradable.

That's the move here. an 8840 can be had for $650 with 32GB DDR and1TB of Storage. I don't now if its worth it to save $120 on a previous generation.
they are both zen 4, seems like it would be a good savings for not much difference

Does system fan on this also makes irritating sound? Returned 6 series one because of it.

I think the only difference between 7000 and 8000 is the addition of AI in the chips. I'd just save that koney

hi! in the market for one of these things to play around with. honest question. why the comment about "minisforum" i thought ive seen posts before speaking of how great it is.
Not sure if it's common or not but their customer service has not been great for me so far. I ordered a portable monitor a few weeks ago and have issues with it. Sent an email detailing my issues according to their instructions asking to return it or get it replaced and haven't heard anything back yet. Sent a follow up a few days ago, hopefully will hear back from them, otherwise will have to do a charge back.

I have the NAB6 and it's good for work but when downloading torrents and other tasks that you'd think an i7 could handle it tends to shut down and event logs show the system firmware caused the shutdown. Of course support answered and then ignored after the first answer.

Note that this uses soldered LPDDR5, although all configurations come with 32GB so it's likely large enough for most people. It does stand out as a mini PC not using SODIMM which is somewhat rare

if you want the best tech, you have to buy the latest gen, and then sell it a year later. sort of like leasing the equipment. sucks, but youre not going to buy something once and have what you want 5 years from now, let alone 10 or 20 years.

i have thrown out so much electronics its gross. i had 3 laptops sitting on the shelf for years... cant even sell them at a certain point. Can't use them for any software thats recent either. in the trash they go, when i should have sold them when i had the chance.

You can at least bring to Best Buy for free recycling...
