Please be aware this is for the barebone configuration, which means no RAM or SSD. Factor in the cost of supplying those when evaluating the total price.

$5 more at their Amazon store. I'd personally buy through Amazon. They have extremely long wait times before shipping. In some cases months. People also have had many negative things to say about their customer service.

A note -

While I love these mini PCs(I've owned four Minisforum PCs, now), they aren't without their weird bugs. Myself and a lot of other 790 Pro users found that they randomly reset about once a day. Turning the RAM speed down from 5600 to 5200 solved it.
Also, more rarely(every 3 months or so), all USB becomes unresponsive and even survives reboots. Unplugging for about 30s solves it.

I'm not saying not to buy them, they are a fantastic value. But if you want a more bug-free experience, you may want to look at a NUC.

I'll say it here again, just like the last UM773 Lite thread: don't get this one. The RAM will thermal throttle and it will become stutter city. DDR5+ gen4 SSD needs dedicated cooling and this minipc does not have that. That's why it's being discounted.

Just look up "um773 throttling"

ETA Prime review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iyNzUysEWU

Im gonna pass. Seems like the benchmarks he ran seemed a LOT slower than other reivew of 7840u devices Ive seen.

I know the 680m is supposed to be close to a 780m in terms of performance, but maybe theres some throttling or something going on here.

Right now I have a crappy 6th gen intel mini PC hooked up to my TV that I run steam link on and stream from my main PC. It works reasonably well.

Eventually I'll get something like this so I can most games locally on that TV instead of in-home streaming, but I dont wanna run at low settings either.

Searching for that returns a plethora of results, including ones where people were able to resolve the issue with BIOS settings and better thermal management.

But what shows up most is your comments in multiple threads on various forums repeatedly saying the same thing.

So did you never try to solve the issue and made it a mission to ensure nobody else takes a crack at it?

I can think of several things to try right off the bat, starting with buying a heat spreader for $7 if you cheaped out and got RAM without one.

Someone earlier mentioned a free solution of simply underclocking the RAM, but I would lower the voltages before sacrificing performance.

There's also a BIOS update as recent as February. Did anyone try that?

If it's genuinely a bad product, that's one thing. But the reason these are cheap and the only way they stay cheap is if the end user is willing to tinker a little.

I got this one a couple months ago for $350 (yes, it's a bit more now):

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CLRC5...=UTF8&th=1

Same specs but comes with 16 GB DDR5 RAM, and a 512 GB NVME. I don't know, the deal here isn't that great because 16 GB DDR5 and a 512 GB NVME is about $100 anyhow. And, you can get it at Amazon for this price just about all the time.

By the way, this thing really kicks butt. I got it just for my TV and to do some music on the go with it (could use my laptop for music on the go, but this also works with my TV, so it's fine.). But, it can do light gaming no problem, edit 4k videos, and I do astrophotography too. The CPU is actually slightly faster (in benchmarks) than my desktop's water cooled 10th, 20 core, i9. So, it actually flies though the astro specific photo programs too.

Great deal for a decently outfitted machine. You could easily play a lot of the latest games at 1080p on medium to low settings.
You really need to add some more qualifiers to this statement. Most games aren't going to run at 1080p 60 FPS on this.

For $100 more, UM780 XTX is a better long-term deal. Better CPU & much better GPU, supports faster RAM, has DisplayPort and additional ethernet and USB4 ports. OCuLink as well if you have a use for it.

None of the CPUs used in these are socketed.

Beware, the MiniPC overheats like crazy when you use the igpu. I had this model, and the ram overheats to over 85 degrees when using the igpu. The Ram and SSD section have no cooling and you have to 3D print a fan mount or buy a replacement if you can find it. It takes about 10-20 minutes with decent ram (not the included ram) to reach those temps, then you are severely throttled, not because of CPU heat mind you which is where the fan is and cooling vents.

When the ram/igpu throttles it goes to 45-70% non-throttled performance at best.

Also, the wifi/USB has power flaws and requires a powered hub for more than a normal mouse and KB (including the USB C).

Plus, an operating system should be included in the needs department?

I had good experience with minisforum customer service with regard to a replacement.

lol, when I buy a product, I am not looking to "fix" it. I want a functioning product.

When most people want to buy minipcs, I don't think this is their idea of a good, well-functioning product: https://i.imgur.com/Jb1YJ8G.jpg

Are you a Minisforum employee trying to clear out stock of a non-functioning product?

BIOS updates can't break physics. If you produce a certain amount of heat, you have to get rid of it (or thermal throttle).

That being said, it's actually well known in minipc circles that the UM773 (and UM690) is bad for throttling unless you mod/3D print a case...but then why don't you just buy another one for the same price and chipset that doesn't thermal throttle?

But since you cherrypicked your search results, let's remove all of my comments. I can still find:

...and more, but I cba to link more since I think I've done more than enough.

Some of these have my comments, but none of these are initiated by me (actually, I don't even have one, I have a UM780 I got for $350, so I wouldn't initiate a post about it anyway)

I have this same system, barely used FS on eBay for $379 with 32gb, 256 ssd, Win10 pro. Great little system. Played AOE2 DE in 4k without issue. You can set graphics mem to auto, 2, 4, 8GB which appears as dedicated GPU memory even though it's using system memory.

Selling because didn't use it enough and recently got the Asus 14" gaming laptop deal.
Love using it, but don't use it much either. For $350, it's great for streaming + emulators though. Comes in handy when having kids over for gaming >.>

Proxmox or any other hypervisor work on this since ESXi is dead now?

Then the bottom line is: A) You have no skin in the game and thus no valid insight beyond whatever anecdotes you scrape from the internet. Thus, you should get off your soapbox if you aren't trying to help.

and

B) These systems aren't meant for people like you. Period. Again, they're cheap because you're not paying for a level of customer service you'd get from a company with a bigger name. Some people need hand holding, others don't. You can see this in the links you provided.

As for your nonsense about BIOS updates having no effect, you're very misinformed. A perfect example of this is the latest issue with ASUS Intel motherboards where their voltage tables were shipped out of spec. Those tables are stored in the BIOS, which is why the problem is being resolved through updates instead of a bunch of RMAs from limp-wristed users.

If this system follows trend of other AMD systems, the RAM is being pushed aggressively and that can be resolved with a BIOS update.

If you think voltage has no effect on heat production, you really aren't up on whatever physics you claim to know.

Moreover, nobody said anything about bad RAM, which is apparently especially inapplicable to you, since you admitted you don't even own this system.

What I said was overheating can be due to cheap RAM running bare without a heat spreader. More expensive memory comes with heatsinks. There's no debate there.
