I bought the 11th gen i7 version from costco about two years ago. Still running strong. I only use it for web browsing, emails , excel sheets and occasional video viewing. By far, this is the best laptop I ever owned ( and I owned a 2021 16 inch Macbook pro M1 max and many other high-end windows laptops).
The screen is big and crisp and the laptop is very light. I even added an extra NVME disk to store music.

How's the build quality compared to a SL or MacBook? I have a 15 in M2 that I really don't "love" but my wife wants it and I'd grab something like this as long as it feels premium

It's not going to feel very premium to you at all. It uses magnesium to achieve that low weight, but the downside is that it's fairly flexible and if you're used to the MacBook's aluminum unibody you'll find the LG Gram feels plasticky in comparison, even though it's not plasticky.
