These I believe during testing was found to restrict airflow significantly. Do your own research though.

There was no redirect. Listen carefully and watch from the chart to the end of the video.

Here's the chart: https://youtu.be/RkjRKIRva58?t=658

0.52 was one of the best static pressures of the group.

He goes on to say "Even though the 3M 1900 which is a MERV 13 filter does have a very tightly woven filter media, it overcomes the static pressure challenge by having 54 pleats and 1560 square inches which is more than twice as much as any of the other one inch filters."

Damn, I checked and need 14x18x1 instead of the more common 14x20x1. I was excited for a second.

Way too thick for me. My furnace choked for lack of air with a high MERV filter. Most HVAC websites recommend MERV 8 as a good compromise between filtering density and air flow, and less stress on the blower motor.

So if I'm renting a place, I can just get a cheaper filter? Is there any benefit at all from a higher priced filter other than protecting the landlord's HVAC? Does it do anything for the air inside my place?
The fact that you are willing to remember to change the filters in a rental puts you miles ahead already. If I had a rental, I would be thrilled that you swapped it out every 3 months. The higher priced filter will most likely be more air flow restricting so stick with medium range. Don't listen to these corporate shills.

I was gonna say, this is probably the best use-case for this grade of filter. Most likely way too restrictive for typical ducted blower systems.

This video explains how Corsi-Rosenthal Boxes outperform HEPA-grade home air purifiers for a fraction of the cost.

I need 14x25x1. Does anyone know if they carry this in the store?
I'm in the same boat. Dallas didn't have any. I wonder if it varies per region.

14 x 24 in Kirkland 2200 does the job for me. Not a perfect fit but the filter size is significant larger than the intake size so it works for me.

I've been running this filter since the beginning of the year (same Costco sale) and haven't noticed anything peculiar -- same temperature/humidity inside, no need to adjust thermostat, same power bills as last year.

Yeah, Agreed. I just bought a 2 pack of Merv10 from Walmart, $20 for 2. But I think it will be cheaper on my electric bill. The higher the rating the harder the AC has to work. Would have gotten the Merv8 but they didnt have them in store. In a rental. They provide free filters, no idea what rating but they are cheap crap 30 day filters

Have you considered getting just a HEPA air cleaner?

That's what I use instead. The Winix C545 is on sale at Costco on a regular basis for $100. Comes with 2-years worth of filter. You can even put it close to the intake of the A/C.

I have one. I have gone through the 2 years of filters already. I am about to put in a generic from Amazon

Hopefully its really HEPA

The Winix filters used to go on sale for $30 at Costco but have not seen that in awhile.

To help other shoppers, how about posting what sizes your local store has? The Scottsdale, AZ store has 20x20, 20x25 and 20x30 inch sizes.
