For the people complaining about the fingerprint sensors -
A really good trick is putting the same finger in twice.
I have my left thumb saved twice in my 6pro and it's fast and flawless. My other fingers take much longer to detect. Seems silly but works very well with this method.
I'm a current Google Fi user so I take advantage of the phone deals constantly. I am on the $20/month plan which charges $10 per gig of data since I'm a light data consumer. If you go with an unlimited data option, the phone deal isn't with it probably. Something like US Mobile would be more cost effective in the long term and buying the phone outright.
MKBHD said the 8 is better. Better screen, better materials, better camera sensor. However this deal is much cheaper for Google-Fi customers. I have Pixel 5a, 6a, 7 currently. Loved 5a physical finger sensor, works instantly. On-screen finger sensor on 6a and 7 are problematic for me. I switched to Moto ThinkPhone and it has been a dream to use. Think phone gets immediate security and OS updates and everything works flawlessly. Couldn't be happier.

Thinking of copping the thinkphone too... How's the signal, call quality, battery life, audio quality?
Don't trade it in for that price. You have free unlimited high quality storage for any pictures and videos you upload to Google photos.
My wife has a Pixel 3 XL we're considering trading, but I saw this. Can you expound on this a bit more? If we get this 8a deal and keep the Pixel 3 XL, that'll continue to give us unlimited photo storage on Google?

Any photos you upload from your 3XL will continue to get free storage saver quality to Google photos.
So, essentially, if you move your pixel 8A photos to your old phone and upload them from there, you'll continue to get free storage. However, that might be too much of a pain for some people. You can also use an app like sync thing to automatically move your files in your camera folder to your old phone and have them uploaded automatically and deleted whenever they're backed up in Google photos.
You have to be an existing FI customer to see these prices.
Also, it appears that if you have a phone under subscription with bill credits (and maybe other offers with bill credits), they no longer show you any other offers. This was not the case previously.
4a was the best phone I ever had, only had to get rid of it because google did 2.5 years of security updates before dropping it. I wouldn't have gone with google again after that, but they offered me $350 trade in, which is what I paid for it. So now I'm stuck with the...passable...7a until something smaller comes along, but smaller phones literally no longer exist.

Yeah, they have been heavily pushing toward bill credits.

I have GoogleFi also right now I'm using the Z Flip with a US Mobile sim and a G Fi esim. The Flip I traded up from Samsung directly and I have a fold from Fi that just sits at home. I'm thinking about the S4 Ultra that they're offering me for $799 I wish I would've got it when they had it at $699. Still thinking on it but I'd only have to pay the taxes upfront.
I have a 6a and it's a beautiful candy bar of a phone. Love the non rounded edges of the screen. It's not a perfect phone by any means but geez the 8a looks like a Galaxy S3 pebble like phone with massive bezels and so many rounded edges. I absolutely hate the design of these latest crop of phones. I might grab a discounted 7a instead until Google decides to make phones look sharper than these overly rounded phones. Seems like planned obsolescence in my opinion. These brand new phones look old.
I received an email stating delivery with the description "met person". I was home all day and met nobody. Surveillance footage shows UPS sailing on by the house at the supposed time of delivery.

The quality of these phones is still very hit and miss.
My experience has been that either my wife is hard on USB ports, or the phones aren't rugged (likely both). Her 7 was splashed at a water park just after the 1 year warranty and no longer works, despite a waterproof rating for being submerged at a depth of 3ft for half an hour. I've fallen into rivers with a phone with zero waterproof rating before, dried it out, and it was fine.
The fact that modern flagship phones can't be worked on with regular tools, don't have removable batteries, and don't have SD slots is shameful. Consumers should demand better.

This can be easily solved with an app that syncs the photos/videos from the new phone back to the Pixel 3XL. I'm doing this with my Pixel 7a and Pixel 3XL.

If you have a Pixel 5 or earlier (Pixel 4a, 4, 3a, 3, 2, 1), you receive unlimited storage for photos and videos backed up from your device at no charge.
Install Syncthing on both phones. Camera is already added to the sync list (storage/emulated/0/DCIM)
Get the two devices to know each other. On the Old Pixel Phone, go to side menu and tap 'Show Device ID' (QR code). On the New Phone, go to Devices tab and tap '+' to add device. Scan the Old Pixel Phone's QR code to add that. Name the Old Pixel Phone as 'Backup Pixel' and save. Go back to the Old Pixel Phone, check for notification asking to connect with New Phone and confirm.
Open the Camera folder on the New Phone. Turn on 'Backup Pixel' toggle so it starts sharing the folder with old Pixel. Folder Type is 'Send Only' so it only sends photos to Old Pixel. Watch for Changes is turned off to save battery. On the Old Pixel Phone, check for notification to accept the folder share and select what directory to back up to + Folder Type is 'Receive Only'
Go to Google Photos on Old Pixel Phone and tell it to back up
Last year I got S23 ultra via a similar deal on Fi but was using it instead on a different carrier. Is it still possible to do that without losing discount?
I got email from google fi for free Pixel 8A. See below:
1 Get $499 over 24 monthly bill credits with financing of a Pixel 8a at fi.google.com, offer ends on 07/02/2024 or while supplies last. Limit 1 per customer or group plan member. Phone activation required by 30 days of shipment confirmation and must be active 24 months. Any stoppage results in charges. Taxes payable at checkout. Terms apply.
Yep, I'm seeing a free Pixel 8a as well. I'm currently on Mint $15 plan using a S20. I think the S20 cost about $11/mo prorated, so I'm paying about $26/mo. That's probably what I'll pay for Fi, which includes the 8a. So the question is whether the 8a is better than the S20.

Looking over Fi statements from 4 years ago. They used to give you 1GB free data & I'd buy 0.5GB. Along with taxes/fees that came to $30/mo. So, with no free data, it looks like this will be more like $40. So not worth it.
