Zipair, a Japanese low-cost airline headquartered at NRT, wholly owned subsidiary of Japan Airlines, via Travelocity have round trip airfares travelling from San Jose CA (SJC) to Narita Tokyo (NRT) for $665 or from San Francisco (SFO) for $702, nonstop. You may earn ZIPAIR points or exchange JAL (Japan Air Lines) points. ZIPAIR has Boeing 787 Dreamliners in their fleet.
You are allowed a personal item that fits under the seat in front of you, weighing up to 15 lbs. And honestly, 15 lbs packs a lot if you leave your laptop at home. There is FREE wifi onboard throughout the entire flight. Some might say it never worked for them but it does, you'll have to scan the QR code on the back of the seat in front of you and then connect. In-flight food may be purchased in advance or onboard, based on availability....costs about $11 for a hot meal.
Travel Availability:
Departs SFO: Sept 9-12, 17-18; Oct 7-8, 14-18, 20-26
Returns: Sept 10-11, 16-19, 23-27; Oct 1-4, 7-10, 16-17, 22-24
Departs SJC: Sept 4-5, 9, 11-12, 16, 19; Oct 14, 16-17
Returns: Sept 5-6, 9, 11-12, 18-20, 23, 25-27, 30; Oct 2-3, 7, 9-10, 16-17

My cousin and a group of his buddies (8 of them) flew ZA a few months ago and opted not to choose seats. Even tho they booked together, they were all separated…all were in middle seats of the middle aisle of the plane.

That's why on every flight I board dead last and browse for the best seat available, and often get a full row of 2 to 4 seats all to myself
Only the Seoul flights permit cancellations for a fee. For all other destinations, you only get the airport fees and taxes back if you cancel.

I don't plan to fly with them, but I'm glad they're providing competition on these routes.
