Constant modem issues, thermal issues, and overall bad performance for a 500$ phone, even worse for the 900$ it launched for. I have not encountered this issues firsthand(as I dont own a pixel) but online, in forums and in tech news there is a strong opinion that the tensor chip is terrible
This is the truth. My wife had a pixel 7 pro and I had a pixel 7. Never had a phone that had so many issues with the modem. Would be left with no connection on my phone constantly and only wifi was reliable. I had been with Google since the Nexus days and had pixel 2, 3, 5 but transitioned to Samsung after our experiences with the 7. Read that the 6 had the same issues which was why I waited for 7 to upgrade but unfortunately, they didn't sort it out.

I'm on my 2nd 8 Pro after getting my first one replaced under warranty. The microphone stopped working, speakers buzzed, wifi reception was terrible, data internet constantly disconnected. Most wifi outside the house it just wouldn't connect. I was on vacation in Mexico and couldn't get on, and their IT person said any time anyone ever has an issue, they have a Pixel 8. Also the screen becomes unresponsive constantly. Type in a search, you can't hit enter or the magnifying glass to execute it till after you close the screen and reopen it.

The new one has all the same issues besides the mic. It's by far the worst phone I've ever owned. I'm not sure if it would be worth it at even half this price. Really the only thing going for it is the camera.

Still using S20 FE myself, the last of the great FE model that delivered higher end specs you wanted without compromising on other things including microSD slot. And it still works great today but security updates will end later this year, that's the real reason to upgrade. You'll have 3 yrs left on Pixel 7 Pro.
Thanks for the info! So where are you looking to go from the S20 FE? Are you jumping on this deal?

Phones in general have gotten too expensive, but Pixels seem to have way too many issues, even the new ones, so I'm stuck like you for now.

why do people think these phones are worth 500$? That's a lot considering how many issues the pixel 6-8 have had.
What issues?

I've had the Pixel 6 and then the Pixel 7 for awhile now and other than some weird not-getting-calls issue, they've both been great. Considering that this deal is for a NEW device, I'd say that it's a very good deal... depending on what you value.

An important factor would be the 512 gb size. If you NEED the space, then you need the space. For me, I try to use as LITTLE space as possible in general making sure that Photos and data are backed up to the cloud and that way I don't risk losing 512 GB worth of stuff if it breaks.

The Pro version has more RAM (12 vs 8) and better cameras.

The general consensus is that the jump from the Pixel 6 to 7 was a relatively small one whereas 7 to 8 is a bigger leap with 3rd gen Tensor chip. Also, expect a Pixel 9 to be announced in October or so which would then make your phone 2 generations old. Google has also often done $200-$250 off their Pixel line so take that into consideration.

Overall, for the right person (maybe someone looking for a long term device that takes huge RAW videos) it's probably a fantastic deal. For others, finding a deal on a Pixel 8 or waiting till the 9 is announced might make more sense.

This is such a delusional take. This guy doesn't understand computer security. 😂
Security updates is just a scare tactic to push new handset sales and increase profits.

I was looking to upgrade my Pixel 5 I bought last year for $100 off a deal from here. But wondered how long until the 7 goes down to $100 refurb. And also a easy way to keep the 5 at the ready to upload photos from the 7 since they are free and don't count towards storage.
Love this phone by the way, there is nothing I don't like, or it can't do that I'm aware of. Except sometimes the Chrome browser doesn't want to load things, so I switched to Bing, who pays me to search anyway

The modems on Pixel phones have never been a strong point, but I noticed improvement from the 6a to the 7. Phone has gotten warm on me a couple of times, but not to the point of overheating and not that often. I think the performance of the phone is pretty good. You'll always find the bitchers on forums about any device.

Of course not. But Android is inherently secure, apps are sandboxed, and apps have their own updates.
Installing Lineage with a Magisk module to enable Pixel features may also be viable. Also, the Pixel 2 lineup has unlimited original photo/video backups, iirc
