I bought these and im very happy with them. I workout a lot more because the design on these makes it easy to change weight compared to my old dumbbells before.

This is extremely tempting, but I have reserved the Reppin Peppins at $899.99. These are about $500 cheaper with all of the add on weights. If I add a knurled handle to it, which costs about $120, I'm still saving close to $380.

Can anyone weigh in (pun intended) on how these feel? I've never had adjustable dumbbells or used Power Blocks for that matter, but I'm concerned about the cage design. It feels like it would restrict movements I would like to do with them compared to the Peppins. Goblet squat, tricep extensions behind the head just to new a couple.
There are 2 2.5lb adder weights on the bottom half of the dumbell. You can remove these to increment your weight by 5lb increments. Why I am mentioning this is that it plays into balance.

For push and pull movements, you won't notice it. For something like a curl or lateral raise, when rotating the dumbell, you will feel the imbalance in weight. This is more noticeable in smaller weights like 20lbs vs 40lbs.

You can remove the adder weights and the balance is normal. It's up to you whether it bothers you. If it does, you can remove and have the 5lb increments available, 15, 25, 35, and so on.

On a side note, I was curious about the handle and figured I'd buy a knurled option. The handle doesn't bother me.

See post below about my issue with product I recieved.

Much better deal

Definitely not a better deal. And not as easy to use

Get a stand. There are no truer words. I had to make a stand for a second set of PB EXPs during the great shortage. It looks like a pulpit, but one perk is, I made it "spec" to the height of the Block, above the floor, while in my hand, so they're super easy to rack. Praise be.

I'm so close to getting a third set. Great deal on a phenomenal product.
You can get a metal plyo box for less than the cost of the stand and use it for box jumps and step-ups...far more versatile

Those PITA adder weighs are why I went for the non expandable Sport version...5lb increments per hand is all anyone needs.

50# is ample for most folks and emergency home workouts. Just go to a real gym for the really heavy workouts...no substitute for full Olympic plates and barbells.

How are these compared to bowflex?
They are so much easier to curl with, the Bowflex are wayy too wide and you have to hold them away from your body when doing exercises, even when bench pressing bowflex you cannot get a full extension because they are too wide to touch together. I cannot believe Bowflex hasn't gotten rid of their stupid design yet.

Thank you for this specific detail comparing the two. I've been debating and trying to justify buying Powerblocks for a while now even though I already own Bowflex 552. This size advantage of Powerblocks is what tipping the scale for me. I think I'm finally pulling the trigger and ordering these!

Looks like you've already done your research quite thoroughly.

Tri extension you could probably just hold each powerblock on each hand instead of one. Goblet squat you're pretty much screwed with powerblocks.

Lol I never do those workouts so that's $380 saved. I do have fixed dumbbells also if I really wanted to do those workouts but... I still don't do them ha.

Durability + Aesthetics, peppin wins. That alone might be $380 worth it for me lol.

Also I like Rep fitness even though I don't own anything from them lol. They're innovative while Powerblock is.. unimaginative. I think they depend too heavily on the fact they've been around for a billion years.

Lol you made the right choice, keep the peppins.

TLDR: adjusting is annoying, you will end up modifying your workout to avoid adjustments, but you can't beat the price for a 90 lb set. Do not get if you intend to use 2.5 or 5 lb increments, that adjustment is annoying.

Use case for these is PRIMARILY for heavy lifting, IMHO. The adjusting procedure is reasonably annoying, particularly if you're tired or doing short rest between sets. The adder weights for the 2.5 lb adjustments are super annoying, you never want to have to use them between sets.

Best use case is you are doing big compound movements where you can comfortably move up in 10 lb increments. So, going 30-40-50 during warm up to working bench sets, for example. Each increase is just pull out the pins and insert one row down.

If you wanted to go up 5 lbs, say 30-35 lb, that means put the weight back in the cage, remove the pin, flip the cage switch, remove one adder weight, flip the cage switch the other way, remove the other adder weight, put it back in the cage, put the pin back in. Want to go up another 5 lbs (i.e. to 40 lb)? Handle back in cage, remove pin, flip toggle, remove adder, flip toggle, remove adder, back in cage, reinsert pin.

That being said, they're very sturdy, not that bulky (and the bulk is relative to the weight, unlike many adjustables where the cage is the same length regardless of weight), and $400 for a 5-90 lb dumbbell set is great. I have a 50-lb set that I left out on a porch for 8 years (and have owned for close to 20 years) and literally nothing on them has degraded at all.

The handle sort of sucks (mine is the contoured foam covered). Does it suck enough to buy a handle separately? I don't think so. It defeats the purpose of buying an inexpensive adjustable dumbbell and then spend a bunch of money dressing it up.

Finally, I find them usable for single dumbbell stuff, but you'll need to make adjustments because the handle is short and also located inside the cage, making it hard to interact with. I have typically been able to grip a single dumbbell in both hands by gripping the cage, rather than the handle and been satisfied with that.

I don't know if I'd pay for a stand, again because I feel uncomfortable paying that much money for a thing to put my dumbbells on. I will say that kneeling on the ground when you're pumped and sweaty and futzing with the pins and doing adjustments is no pleasant, but I think you can figure out a much cheaper solution to get your dumbbells off the ground.

Work in your garden. I do manual digging, pulling weeds by hand, to grow my vegetables.

It is great work, no need to buy these dumb bells and you save money too on free vegetables!

Am I smart or not?
At best you didn't understand what working out is, at worst, you're a troll. People work out because they enjoy the actual activity of working out, or they want to build strength and muscle mass. Any practical activity (read: gardening, landscaping, et al} will develop strength and burn calories, BUT is not targeted and highly efficient for strength and muscle building.

It is definitely true that fitness is a personal journey, but prescribing manual labor as a viable alternative to focused exercise is (a) an insult to science, and (b) an insult to manual laborers.

Point is: you workout in order to be better able to do gardening; gardening won't help your workout.

I got the dumbells the last time this deal was posted and wished I had gotten the stand. Glad I got a secondary chance. The dumbells were indeed brand new/factory sealed. The design is very impressive. The grip is great for big hands and is contoured. The UPS driver used a hand truck due to the weight.

Is the stand necessary? Why did u say you wish you bought the stand the time you missed it?
