What is everyone's problem with Newegg? I've been buying from them since 2005 (if memory serves) and never had a problem with their customer service on any product. Besides, Newegg is just the storefront here, goHardDrive is the actual seller and shipper on this deal. I'd grab a pair of these without hesitation, except I just ordered a pair of 18TB drives last week for $135.00 each.

I have a 10TB version of this drive. Picture a grandma with the shakes holding a box of rocks. That's about what these sound like when their busy.

Go on YouTube and watch Gamers Nexus. They did a report about Newegg.

Enough already! Whatever else these 5 year old hard drives are, they are not cheap. They may make sense for people willing to deal with high failure rates, but they are not a hot deal. Don't make the mistake of comparing them to new drives.
These are less than 2 year old drives and recertified by Seagate directly.

Higher failure rate? Maybe. It would be like 2% vs 1% with new drives. I would personally rather have two of these for the same price of one brand new one (and that would be a deal).

Yep, exactly! Buy used/refurbished that works exactly as good as new for half the cost of new.... I fail to see any issues with this logic. Although, I guess there is always the herd mentality, nothing can beat the herd when they're determined to jump off the cliff.

As I said, these aren't for everyone.

On GHD's website they sell the 18TB Exos [goharddrive.com] for $270. It says "2 Year Warranty" in the title, but "5 Year Warranty" in the blurb. On the NewEgg listing there is no mention of warranty. People will tell you that GHD have a blanket warranty of 5 years on all drives, but GHD do not publish that anywhere I can find. The only thing they do publish is this [goharddrive.com] rather cryptic but worrying disclaimer:

Warranty Disclaimer
This site and the materials and products on this site are provided "as is" and without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. To the fullest extent permissible pursuant to applicable law, goHardDrive.com disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including, but not limited to, implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

I'd rather be kicked in the junk than order anything from Newegg.

Yeah, I agree. I was being charitable saying only two, which is why I said that would be a deal (on the new one) if you could do 2 for one. Usually it would be more like 3 like you said.

Where does it say these are recertified by Seagate? I don't see that mentioned anywhere on the page.

It's on the label of the drive in the picture. "Seagate Recertified Product"

And I've bought these before and can confirm they actually are.

I do see that but it's not mentioned anywhere in the listing. I'm always wary of trusting the photos in hard drive listings. Stock images are everywhere. It amazes me how many listings have photos of absolutely ancient hard drives. Drives that park their heads on the platters are a dead giveaway.

Did you buy one of these drives from goHardDrive? If so, was the SMART data intact or reset?

I have bought 3x from gohardrive , each time buying 4 12gb refurbs. First time went very good, all 4 drives gave No errors, and initialized no problems, good SMART. I was happy.

2nd and 3rd orders had problems with initializing my drives, and smart errors! Was terrible experience for me, and decided not to buy from them.

I have had good experience with ServerPartsDeals with 14TB WD enterprize Manufacture Refurbs, every drive initialized and smart was good...I bought 10 drives from them.
You're buying hard drives that are used heavily in data centers for about 5 years and they are more than half way through their typical life. So it's always going to be a gamble on whether they will die soon after purchase.

The 12TB I got from GHD on eBay deal came with a invoice in box with 5-year warranty mentioned on it

You're talking about a drive with a 2.5 million hour MTBF...... I think anyone would take those odds counting on a typical life expectancy!
