Cafestol: "Studies have shown that regular consumption of boiled coffee increases serum cholesterol whereas filtered coffee does not.[5] Cafestol may act as an agonist ligand for the nuclear receptor farnesoid X receptor and pregnane X receptor, blocking cholesterol homeostasis. Thus cafestol can increase cholesterol synthesis.[6]

This dripper is plastic,so pass for me, but just the carafe may be worth price of admission.

Why go to the trouble of making this elegant glass carafe and then use a plastic filter? Incompetence.

Approx. 130K. Oft-cited doc in related research:
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3314888/

This was in '87, and a lot has occurred since, esp. wrt filtered versus unfiltered.

Marketing. I use something made of cotton. We call it the coffee sock. It's awesome and inexpensive. You can get one for like 1.99 at a Spanish store. It's not slow drip though but I'll pair it with a smaller hole funnel.
When I lived in Brazil years back, a decent family sized coffee maker was expensive so I'd use this and keep the coffee in a thermos for everyone

Plastic drippers are preferred by many expert baristas because they obviate the need for preheating. It is easy to get an underextacted brew with glass or ceramic drippers if they are not adequately preheated because of their higher thermal mass. If you pour water directly off the boil into a heavy ceramic dripper at room temperature, the water may immediately drop below 85 C, which is not really hot enough to brew light roast coffee.
