I have a S3 Frontier that I use on occasion. How much of an upgrade is this? Also, this connects to your phone as well, right? I don't need to get lte for it?

Apologies for the newb questions. Thx.
I will also be upgrading from the S3. The main benefit in my eyes is just having Google's Wear OS instead of Samsung's Tizen OS, as there are many more apps on Wear OS and they are more stable.

I have had Samsung on Wear OS and Tizen. Wear OS has more apps yes. More stable, I would say NO. The tizen platform was actually very good, but Samsung dropped it because they didn't want to further develop it when people weren't writing apps for it.

Does your phone last a week? Then why does your smartwatch need to? Charge the watch at night when you go to sleep. All you need is to last a day, like 20 hours tops.

Unless you do the sleep monitor which is load of BS. Even then, charge it while you are showering and getting ready. These watches charge pretty quickly.
That's only applicable to folks that would shower daily. Consider the demographic of the SD'ers reading your replies.

For some reason I think people who don't shower daily are not doing sleep monitoring.

Any good value watch plans as a back-up talk & text device? Also I presume this LTE only, no 5G capability, should be fine.
Google Fi let's you add a watch to a regular account for free and it can be used as a standalone.

Yeah my 5 lasts about 2 days...normal usage!
Yup 5 is king for sure. 6 Classic 47mm I'm getting 30-35 hours max paired to my phone with a LTE plan also enabled. If I go watch only I barely make it 8 hours the two times I've tried it.

Are we sure these are new? How can they perform diagnostics and a battery test if it's a sealed box?
I wondered the same thing but bought anyway. It came brand new sealed in original Samsung box

46mm LTE version. Seems pretty slick for $83. Thanks, OP!
I wish it was smaller 40 or 42 one. I was going to get one for kids there was amazing deal for $50 for Bluetooth one but wife said we should get LTE one..
Whats best plan for this?

Have the 5...waiting on the 7...6 has terrible battery life!
My 6 and 6 Classic (I have each due to insane trade-in deal at the time - under $30 each) have great battery life. With always on display in use I wear the watch from 6:30am to 10pm with over 50% battery remaining.

I get over a day on my 6 Classic but TBH have regrets upgrading from the 4 Classic as I gained basically nothing. 5 has the best battery life but I like the bezel that turns. Apple and Samsung really need to figure out this battery life thing though as we should be at a week minimum.
I traded in my Watch4 Classic for $50 for a Watch 6 Classic and noticed a increase in battery life, it also has a few more useless sensors but I agree for the most part. There is no incentive for Apple an Samsung to improve the battery life. Both last 30-40 hours with gps on and still over a day with always on.

For longer battery life you can use Garmin, I don't track my sleep with my watch so battery life isn't an issue for me and I charge overnight. If people keep buying the watches why will the companies change anything major besides incremental upgrades?

Forgive my ignorance...
With an LTE watch do you need to have the LTE service for it to just stay paired to your phone? I don't care about it being an independent wireless device.
No, it can work off your phone via Bluetooth or off of a wifi network... that being said, the LTE option for many carriers is only $5-$10/month. I sail and do plenty of other outdoor activities where it's nice to have a lifeline without having to carry my phone.
