Yeah I got this for $10 at Ollie's right before Christmas, and the terrain packs for like $5 I think

This has been under $20 for months on Amazon. No real deal here.

Ollie's does not have these anymore. They had them before Christmas and they were picked clean. The terrain packs in particular were gone in a day. Saying you bought them for much less at Ollies would be more accurate Also less likely to send people off searching for a deal that doesn't exist anymore
The Ollie's near me has prob 200+ of the game, and prob double of the monster and terrain packs. I would recommend checking Ollie's as most still have them

But is it a good game? I personally like board games and enjoyed DnD back in the day…my 25 year old plays DnD…is it any good?

Why everyone just comment how cheap it was before Christmas in Ollie? So is it a good product? Worth 10 bucks? Worth 20? Or only good for as stocking stuffer?

BGG tends to favor Euro games, but reading the comments at least gives you a general sense of the talking points.

Thanks. I always feel BGG reviews are kinda hardcore. Causal players may have a different take. Let me see what BGG has to say if it worth sinking in time on it. Thanks again. Smilie

Your Ollie's may not, but every Ollie's in Georgia has endcaps filled with them.

Bought yesterday at Ollie's for 9.99 and then applied 15% off coupon (total purchase), in NC.

Such a pretentious claim. Maybe try imagining that your life experience is not the same as everyone else on Earth's and other stores exist outside of whatever town you've never left. If you did a lick of research into any online D&D community you'd see that *most* Ollie's around the country are still littered with these for $10 and the terrain/creature packs for $3.

My apologies. You are right. In my area they were wiped out but I did not realize they were still available in other states. I stand corrected.

I've played the game about 4 or 5 times now. Our DM (Dungeon Master) is playing us through the new Dragonlance setting, and this game is recommended in the campaign for large scale battles.
As a short review, I think the game is fine. There are tense, tactical moments, and a good amount of cooperation to ensure a victory. There are even mechanics for achieving medals and honors that carry over to future games. You don't need to know anything about D&D to play this game, as it's only themed around the setting. The actual play experience is completely different. As a con, there are a lot of pieces. Each 'flank' of the battle has 20-40 pieces to represent the armies. And each battle, while being different in goal and set-up, feel very similar. The gist of each playthrough is, the heroes are trying to do something, while a war wages. And if the different flanks are lost before the heroes can achieve their goal, then you fail.
I'd give it a solid 6/10, but I would buy it for $20 as well. My main deterrent would be the set up time, with all the little plastic footman/missile/cavalry line pieces.

While I can't speak for this particular game, I can tell you that 5th edition (current edition) isn't your father's dnd. Lol.

5th edition was simplified and streamlined from the older versions. While I miss some of the features of the older versions, I think the change is ultimately positive if it helps newer players enjoy. And tbh, what was "lost", I don't miss as much. 5th edition is much faster to play and less to argue about rules every 5 mins lol.

It's probably why your son was able to get into it. It's a lot of fun! PLAY WITH HIM! I think you'd have a blast.

Don't ask us if it's a good game. Ask him! Roll up a character and see where it leads you.
