Please stay away from the Mirai. The hydrogen/H2 fuel costs $36/kg. The $15K fuel card they will give is good for 25K miles. It'll cost ~$180 to fill up, which is good for ~300 miles. I'm part of a telegram group of Mirai owners. Many there cannot get near to 400 miles advertised range, no matter how hard they try. People in SolCal have to deal with unreliable H2 stations. People in SF just had their only 3 local stations closed permanently.

I own a 21 Telly SX-P. I can't imagine cross-shopping the two; they are two completely different cars. The Telly is a near-luxe car with 10 year (powertrain) warranty and has had reviewers raving for about 4 years now. I'm not aware of any raving for this Mitsubishi. The Mitsu Outlander competes against smaller, simpler cars, like the RAV4, Subaru Forester, Kia Sportage, and Hyundai Tucson.

Mitsu is dying on the vine in America. I can't imagine buying one (any of them, alas) in America in the past 10 years or so; they have neither money nor engineering prowess required to introduce competitive cars in this country. I wonder how long they will continue in the USA; IMHO most Mitsu dealers have a primary business of either selling another brand or selling used cars, and they sell Mitsu on the side.

The Outlander also has a 10 year power train warranty and 60k 5 year overall warranty. The Outlander engine has been around since the early 2000s and the plug-in system since 2010s - globally it's the most sold plug-in SUV in the world. And no, Mitsubishi increased sales by about 35% 2023 to 2024 first quarter in the US, with outlander sales increasing 41%. None of the Mitsubishi dealers near me are selling other brands (5 within a 30 mile radius). I know you didn't research this lol

OK, so that last one's old, but still. Mitsu's not in good shape with respect to cars in the USA (and yes, I'm aware they're a *MASSIVE* company, and their car division in the USA is only a tiny portion of their balance sheets. In order for that warranty to be worth anything, a dealer has to be near my house and still in business... right now there's one 9 miles away (here's a picture: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com...1360-h1020 -- note that the USED CAR SALES logos are LARGER than the MITSUBISHI logos...they finally cleaned it up a while back: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com...1360-h1020), one 25 miles away, and the rest are 40+ miles away. And I'm in a major metropolitan area. But I will grant you: there are 5. Can't say for how long.

You bring up increased sales. Everyone has had increased sales; nobody was selling cars in a good portion of the pandemic; some stats should just be ignored. I'm glad, for the sake of competition, that the Outlander is doing well. But I would never buy a Mitsubishi. Their heyday was in the 80s and 90s.

Lots of people here holding onto old grudges against mitsubishi lol. The Outlander is a good SUV for the price. The PHEV version is more expensive but a lot more powerful and satisfying to drive than the default CVT.

Do you value Consumer Reports at all for unbiased car reporting, as well as sampling of actual problems for car reliability reporting?

Is Car & Driver more your go-to for reviews?

Neither put a positive spin on this car.

Fair point, of course. But I would argue that more objective sources (Consumer Reports) echo many of the same points/issues/concerns I bring up on the brand, and clearly state in the ratings that this lags other more competitive offerings.

Another ugly, oversized SUV. No surprise nobody wants this. It's a shame this deal doesn't apply to the Outlander Sport, although the interior of that car looks like it hasn't changed in over 10 years.
After owning 2008 Rogue and 2013 Infiniti JX35, I told myself Nissan never again, constant issues. Constant. I'd literally get in and deal with VW's electrical issues again than the neverending mantra of Nissan problems. Everything that could fall apart will.

Outlander PHEV owner here. Best hybrid SUV you can find. Interior feels luxurious, pilot assist feature is surprisingly good and you charge at most public chargers outthere, even some tesla chargers. Don't listen to haters and watch some reviews on YouTube.

Local Honda dealer had their entire stock at 0% APR for 48 months. Toyota dealership also had several models for 0% APR for 48 months.

Thx for the HU.
Haven't seen a Mitsu in Chicagoland for over 10 years.
Thought they had surrendered to brands that offered 10 year warranties.
