These were like 549 on sale before the pandemic. Considering the crazy inflation over the last 4 years, its a good deal now that its back to the 500s.

Is the stigma around a humbucker on a strat so strong that they have to hide that second coil? 😉

If you're in the market this is a pretty great deal for a MiM equivalent strat

The guitar is undercover. Don't blow it.

lol now I gotta think about this. My ultra HSS has a humbucker and 2 noiseless pickups.... which are... basically humbuckers. Oh shit my guitar is HHH lol.

Those stacked pickups sound different than the regular humbucker does though. Big Grin

To be fair, HSS (even if it's effectively HHH) looks better than actual HHH does. HHH looks funky. Some people may like that. I'm not sure lol. I think HH is cool.

What would be truly short bus special is putting the humbucker on a HSS crooked like they do when they put a regular pickup in the bridge position.

Honorable mention: The G&L split pickups.

Worth noting that the Player series Strats are routed for HSH under the pickguard. So if you end up not liking HSS you can always get a new pickguard and swap to something else.

This is a much better deal. Be aware the black one comes with pau ferro, not roasted maple. You're basically getting an amazing Strat for the cost of the pickups and neck alone. I snagged one of the Fiesta Red ones before they went OOS. Fat50s are supposed to be glorious.

Maybe, if the humbucker isn't your thing.

But no one has even posted those alternatives as deals in their own right.

I think it depends what type of music you are into, and want to play. The standard SSS Strat is a great swiss army tool and plays most things well, EXCEPT hard rock and metal. If I was buying a guitar for a kid just starting to learn, unless they are a huge SRV or Eric Clapton fan, the HSS give them more options.

Definitely a better deal. You can always swap a hum bucker in if you want and sell the fat 50s. But those are some of the best single coil pickups in existence, while the pickups in this model will be nothing to write home about. The deal has been kind of low key but the Fiesta Red one was posted.
