Think of a world in which all nutritional needs could be met with space food pills: "Who in their right mind would pay extra money to go to a nice restaurant!?"

People still do because the nice restaurant food has aesthetic value. It is pleasurable and delights the senses. It has symbolic value (think of going out on a special occasion, or gifting yourself a watch on a special occasion, or giving your son a graduation present, etc.). Is it so crazy to spend $700 to give to your best man? Or to give your husband on an anniversary? Or to commemorate a job promotion?

For that matter, who in their right mind would spend money to go skiing, which is an entirely non-necessary activity? I dunno, maybe because they enjoy skiing, same as someone might enjoy watches for their historical relevance, for their craft, for the way the old-fashioned movement of springs and gears (and not batteries) can capture the imagination in a way that a battery powered digital device might not do in this day and age, for their artistry?

People go to NFL games when they can watch them on TV. I don't do it . . . but I can see why people would shell out that kind of money.

Who in their right mind would spend $2,000 a bicycle? I would never do it (I'm not into cycling). . . but I'm pretty sure I can figure out who in their right mind would. Is it really that difficult to think why it could make sense to do?

If you asked an honest question, then that's my initial attempt at an honest answer. It's also an attempt at demonstrating why other people have given "You're kind of being a troll here, dude" answers. Anyway, I'll leave it at that.
Seriously? I have watches that only "tells time" (well, date as well) that cost a nice chunk more than $700 including a Zenith I bought through SD a while back. It's okay if it's not for you, but there is no reason to insinuate people are crazy for spending more money than you would on a watch.

I have a Samsung Smartwatch as well for when I want to go that route.
I like the black dial and wish I could afford it right now. Most of the watch deals that show up here are for larger watches. Keep the 40mm and below deals coming SmilieHere's a quick unboxing of the leather strap version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSXMvTdxTns

No point explaining it to people that have no interest and don't get it. Also, no point in them bothering to post in a thread for something they don't want anyway! Lol

May I have your permission to share this response with my business-school students?

Thank you for asking. No, I don't mind at all. May I ask which school? And what would be the context?

It is weird that some people think a $600 apple watch ultra is slick and this is relatively expansive.

Because they don't sell the Honda fit anymore even though it's the perfect city car.

honda fit, ford fiesta, chevy spark, mazda 2 / yaris, kia rio, 39mm watches, all killed (in the US) by stupid SUVs and 47mm watches.

Can fit more in the fit than in a crv, and it turns like my miata. Now I'm mad about subcompacts being killed in the US again.

Anyways, I like the 40mm size, though I abuse my watches a little too much to get a shiny new auto. Sad that most brands shy away from the smaller watches even though many people don't have large enough wrists to pull off the 45mm+ well.

Hmm I'm a casual watch fan I thought the days of the 45+ were over. I'm 5'10 180 but my wrists were never all that thick. I found around 42 to be about right for me. Invicta was never all that good but all their 45 plus watches seem to always be on clearance now for 20-30 bucks.

Same reason why people spend $50M on a jet just to fly.

This is very tempting. I have a super skinny wrist though... I usually use the small size Apple Watch. I'm 511, 155 pounds. Will this look funny on my wrist?

I only wear an Apple Watch. It's convenient and useful. It has many features beyond telling the time. And I spent a good chunk of change on it.

But when I go to a formal or professional function dressed in a suit, and I see another man sporting a nice watch, I am simultaneously impressed and embarrassed. I feel like a child with a toy on my wrist.

Well that always true no matter what, I was just curious as to why. Nothing wrong with it.
Watches have always been milestone marker for my career. I have a titanium Tudor Pelagos that was $4500 and it matches my iPhone 15 pro titanium perfectly.

40 is pretty good for most wrists, I doubt it'd look bad unless you mean actual child sized wrists when you say "super skinny"

small size apple watches:

gen 1-3 came in 38
gen 4-6 & se came in 40
gen 7-9 came in 41

So your claiming that a mechanical watch, is going to detect heart issues, car crashes, and call emergency SOS, and give them your location? I don't think so, but maybe I'm wrong

I was joking - MacGyver used watches, swiss army knives, paperclips, gum, household chemicals, etc. to create anything from a bomb to hacking into the mainframe.
Great show if you never watched it, he loved hockey and watches.

Haha. For a more direct answer, this watch maker is popular in the "watch aficionado" circle for being a smaller independent brand doing interesting things and making their own movement or "engine" without being overpriced and being a well kept secret in the industry. Most solid time pieces are in the 1k - 5k range. At this range you will get good materials, great craftsmanship, historical legacy, and what defines a watch, how long it can tell time as accurate as possible. From the outside, a watch is just a watch. All you see is the bracelet and the watch face, but inside is an infinitely complex marvel of human engineering. Think of a 63 mustang, on the outside it's just a car. But a car guy will appreciate the finer detail inside the hood and engineering that make it special. All good brother, there is always more than meets the eye. Wish you well Smilie

This brand isn't attractive to me but others are. I'm a craftsman. I respect craftsmanship. Whether its a sailboat I'm cruising or racing or a watch I'm buying, if its important to me I'll pay for craftsmanship. Everyone scratches that itch different ways.
BTW cars do nothing for me, but I grew up in a 64-1/2 mustang. Good luck finding a 63 that isn't wood or clay.
