I bought one of these penn spinfisher reels on sale from Amazon during the winter and it felt smooth reeling it with nothing on it.
But now that I'm actually reeling in a 2 oz jig, it feels like the rotor is wobbling or it isn't properly balanced like the cheaper penn pursuits. Are these reels not smooth or do they just offload the flawed but otherwise usable reels with these sales

Not sure I've had the same experience. I have 6-7 pursuits from big surf reels to light rods. All spin really well. I do have 2 spinfishers from these deals one being the 6500 boat rod and the other 4000/7ft LL and both spin perfectly. All reels now have between 2 years and 6mo of use. 3-5 outings a week with kids abusing equipment fishing saltwater. They hold up well.

How a reel feels is very subjective so all you can really do is wait till you have more experience with other reels so you can compare. One other thing.... bearings are not all positives, there are negatives to ball bearings in different areas. For one, bushings can be more durable in adverse conditions, usually they are just plastic so if salt water gets in there it affects a plastic bushing less so than a steel ball bearing which is more sensitive to corrosion. Reels also need maintenance from time to time. For example after fishing salt water when you get back, rinse off the reels in fresh water or better yet, distilled water to get salt off. Some people each season will open their reels and regrease the reel. As far as your reel goes, if you are able to, maybe you can take it apart and replace the bearings and that may restore the silky feel it had. If you don't know how to there are reel repair shops around that can repair/tune up your reel. The spinfishers are supposed to be one of the better sealed reels around, so check the warranty and see if maybe penn might honor it for repair.

They are all brass so not as smooth as others. They are made for durability/corrosion resistance. They take a bit to wear in. If you regrease/relube they are perfect the longer you use.
