Just got this tv delivered yesterday from the Bestbuy deal and I'm blown away at the quality of the picture for the $. Its been a massive upgrade from a 65 X900F that I've had the past few years. Highly recommend this tv.

I bought this a year ago when it came out, on sale for $2.2k. The TV is super bright and the software works nice and smooth. My only issue is that it has horrible ghosting, mostly during action scenes or really anything with movement when watching a show. For gaming, gaming mode is 100% needed otherwise input delay is like 1 second. The ghosting is also there. See pic https://imgur.com/a/obRPcex

I'd say I wish I would've went with a Sony instead, as originally planned.

I was lucky and got a 85" Sansung from Sam's for $991. Very happy with it. I work at Costco and our price was $2299. The new price for 2024 model is $3299. Pretty, yes. But worth that price? Not for me.
Also, Sony has changed their flagship tvs to mini led. OLED shows signs of burn in. I'm sure it's costing them money to warranty that. Plus they are in the 5k range.
I sell many TCL tvs in the $600 range with back lighted mini-leds. Yeah they are only 75 or 77 inch. But my customers are thrilled.

Rtings....Damm. I suppose distracting is not a good thing for a TV. What is the phrase, you will get use to it, So much for the NHL playoffs with white fast moving background

The TV has good gray uniformity, especially on a very dark or near-black screen, where its uniformity is great. However, on brighter scenes of uniform color, there are obvious uniformity issues, with a significant amount of dirty screen effect, distracting when watching content with large areas of uniform color, like sports. Note that the black mark at the top right is due to our panel's shipping damage and isn't related to the TV's gray uniformity.

Oh Oh....ok, 85 inches means you better have 1080p or better.

The TCL QM8 has poor upscaling capabilities. Its sharpness processing is just not up to the task when upscaling low-resolution content, leading to a loss of fine details and hard-to-read text

I think you answered your own question. Rtings preferred the U8H and the 2024 U8N is rated even higher. This is cheaper though than same size U8N.

Agreed. I got this set from the previous deal a few days ago to test against the new 2024 85QNED90T from LG... Has bad ghosting, more bloom and some DSE from what I'm seeing. I'll have to verify the firmware and see if it's the latest as a previous post mentioned.

...But right now I'm liking the LG more unless the firmware can correct the display issues.

Can you describe the upgrade? I've got a Sony 900f from 2017 and curious what you've noticed between the two? I'm still happy with my Sony. It's a 75". Besides the extra size what's the quality difference like?

Not my experience at all. I have 3 TCL's, a 75" series 6, a 55" and 40" series 3. Had them all for several years without ANY issues whatsoever.

Agreed. I have two also and love them both. This specific TV may be the best bang for your buck available. OLED will have better picture, but for this size will be at least two times the price.
