I played it on the PS3 back in the day with my wife, and for $5, it's a no-brainer. The game features a lot of audio clips, dialogue, and music from the actual movies, plus the typical humor found in Lego games. I wasn't that into the LOTR movies before, but after playing through the game with my wife, I got hooked. I went nuts with getting 100% of the collectibles in the game, so probably got a solid 50+ hours of gameplay out of it originally.

It's been a while for me, but I recall it as being a fairly rough adaption. It was one of the first to use actual voices if memory serves and that was a big culture shock for me, so take it with a pinch of salt

I think if you like the older Lego games, you'll like this. Doubly so if you're a LOTR fan. I did have to jump through a few hoops to get it running on the Deck - mainly Proton version if I recall. And there were a couple of glitches preventing 100%, though TT did release a few codes to overcome the glitches and force the game to 100%. Otherwise, you were stuck at 97%. But in my opinion, it was one of the better Lego games.

Can't speak for this one but I had really good luck with Lego Star Wars "Complete Saga" on the Steam Deck. That one is almost 20 years old yet performed great out of the box. Minor changes between games can break things of course.

I've played most of the Lego games, this is honestly my favorite. My son and I played through it twice. It follows the movies well and adds a comedic aspect. Totally recommend.

Love this game, it's awesome, played it on the Xbox 360.

Not sure if PC supports co-op, if it doesn't I would buy this, as co-op is a HUGE part of Lego games. You can play solo but it's just not the same.

I can confirm console supports co-op thoguh

Yes, but the difference is that Lego Star Wars is officially listed as verified on the Deck whereas LOTR is officially listed as unsupported. LOTR doesn't work out of the box. Or at least didn't when I snagged it. But I think it was just finding and downloading the right Proton version.

Once it's running, it plays just as well as the Star Wars game on the Deck. Other than the 97% glitch I mentioned earlier but that's probably a game glitch not related to playing it on the Deck.

"Unsupported" can mean anything from doesn't work, perhaps a setting needs to be changed in the game, proton versions to run it, or just that the Dev never submitted that game to Steam for Steam Deck testing yet works perfectly (the case with many older games). I notice there are lot of games out there where the standard edition is rated playable or verified yet the GOTY / Deluxe / etc are "unsupported." Same game, same functionality (or problems) yet different ratings. Personally I think Steam needs a way that users can submit their own reports similar to how ProtonDB works (which is a far better resource for SD compatibility). Perhaps two ratings, an official Steam rating and a community one. That would also make it more obvious when a patch ruins a game's compatibility on the Steam Deck. Valve never ever ever seems to catch that issue but user reports over time could show a clear pattern when a game stops working.*

*Recently this was an issue with a bunch of Capcom that their new DRM pushed out to hundreds of games broke countless verified titles. You can see this issue a lot as well via ProtonDB where uses suddenly start reporting a non-functioning game right after a patch. Chernobylite had a next gen update that broke the game on the SD yet was still listed as verified.

(wow....didn't plan to write that much)
