Maybe the real issue is they expected people to spend $70 for a 1:1 remake. Only Nintendo can get away with that lol.
The real issue is that the premise was cool, but when the sequel came out, the enemy turned out to be a religious cult and it just didn't work. They needed better writers.

I didn't buy it in principal alone. The studio that originally developed it was bought by EA, forced to churn out junk sequels, and then shut the studio down only for them to remake a game from a studio they destroyed. Ironic.

The issue isn't that people don't want original games, it's your statement that the remake is crap compared to the original and wasn't needed. Completely wrong (although I understand that was your opinion).

If you ask almost anyone that has actually played both they will almost all say the remake is better in nearly every aspect. Obviously in visuals, but they overhauled some of the mechanics as well as weapons and they are much improved for it.

There isn't one thing besides nostalgia that I prefer the original for. In fact, if you put the controller in the hands of someone that has never played either and gave them 30 minutes with each game, after the 30 minutes no one would be playing the original again.

Playing through this now. It's definitely technologically better than original, but you lose any sort of suspense if you've played this before, which makes it a recommendation for new players only.
