If you're using TorGuard VPN, the Mumbai server will not work (apparently Microsoft knows their IP addresses). You'll get the "purchased in a different region from your account" error. However, the Bangalore server works perfectly.
Some other VPNs may also have the same issue. The "purchased in a different region from your account" error typically means you should try connecting to a different city in India or try using a different VPN. It does not mean that you should change your XBox account's region from the US to India, this is never required.

If I click on a game, it brings me to a screen to sign up, with the same account that has gamepass until next year.
Did I screw something up?

I just tried and it extended my XBox GPU by 81 days. Costs a little bit lesser than Eneba.
However be warned that this is a 3P seller and dealing with Customer care is a pain if they don't send you a valid code.
