It's probably the safest place you can go in the world in general. Crazy amount of affordable public transportation that is perfectly clean and safe, and you can reach most places in the island in a few hours.
In the summer, I would head to Hualien by train and explore the area/relax and don't leave until you have to! If it's winter, I'd go to Kaohsiung and down to the southern tip.
I lived in Taiwan for 6 years. Amazing place and even better people.
I would definitely recommend anyone who is interested in going. I love it there and will probably relocate there permanently once I retire. Great place, great food, extremely convenient, and amazing people.
I won't go until details cause no one comes here to read a novel of a comment, but you get the idea. There are lots to like.

I don't think I've ever traveled anywhere without somebody saying why it's not the right time. One key I recommend is turning off the TV. They stayed where they were, and I went all around the world. I'm very thankful.

China Airlines is from RoC. That's why it's called China Airlines. Taiwan is just an island, not a country. RoC has more than Taiwan island as it's territory.

My understanding is it's still one of the safest places in the world. But just should be aware of rising tensions going on
That's been going on for as long as I can remember.

China's not gonna attack. You know why? They hold nearly $1 trillion dollars in US Treasuries even with all of that selling the last couple years for cash to prop their dead economy nevermind all of their other assets. One little mis-step and frozen and confiscated.
Also they don't produce enough food internally. They have to import 60% of it weekly. Just these two items alone nevermind all of their other weaknesses would be their downfall if they ever tried anything anywhere.
All these threats are a joke and necessary to brainwash their own population that they still lay claim to the independent country of Taiwan. What a joke.
Have a good time in Taiwan yalls.
Japan, Korea, SE Asia are all pretty great, too! Depends on what you're looking for and when you go. SE Asia is generic so I'll omit that. I'd probably substitute the Philippines for S. Korea, but that's just me. The longer you stay, the more you learn and experience! Go and make memories!
Yes, tensions between China and Taiwan have been skyrocketing. China has expressed that they will be taking Taiwan - but nobody knows when. My bet is before Biden is out of office/when the next U.S. election results become clear.
So, yes- one traveling to Taiwan in the near future should be aware of this, as your chances of being unable to fly out of Taiwan once said conflict begins will be very difficult and dangerous.
