It's not mandatory, but they don't even give you option for person detection only and force cam plus as cam plus lite doesn't work anymore. Without person detection these cameras are useless
Color night vision exists. It's just waaaaay outta the realm of consumer grade.
I've been running one outside since Fall and weather hasn't bothered it. It's under and overhang, so it's protected from rain, but we do have sand storms. Altogether I have 4 of these. The biggest problem is that these seem to lose their reference position. The means it goes to the wrong preset positions, and may be unable to go to positions that it should be able to go to. Fortunately it doesn't do it as often, so it's probably a firmware issue that eventually eliminates the problem. The problem can be fixed, typically by going into the app an restarting the camera.
Yes, I've had one on a fence for over a year. I did calk over the connections just in case.
