If you liked Ogre Battle on SNES, this is a must buy (I've heard it's like OB64 as well but didn't play that one). Spiritual successor and a day 1 buy from me. The only game I've gotten a platinum on.
There is a demo which I would recommend first to see if the game is for you. They give you about 7 hours which can carry over to the full game. It's niche to say the least, but undoubtedly great if you fall into that.

GOTY. If you even like the idea of Fire Emblem, give it a shot.

Can anyone speak to Switch vs PS5? Obviously portability on Switch vs graphics and load time on PS5, but is this a good Switch experience? Bought a few favorite PS4/PS5 games on Switch recently, but found them unplayable based on how they ran on Switch.

Back in 2016 it would have been a tossup for me, but we're in 2024 now - unless you specifically need portability I would stay far away from third-party Switch games.

As someone who just finished a plat run in Tactics Ogre Reborn and has been itching for some more classic action, I am STRONGLY tempted. But I just bought Civ VI for $3… have to stop buying 😭

I played the demo on both and went with Switch. The mission-based gameplay lends itself well to a handheld, IMO. Also the UI is sized for a smaller screen. Load time isn't noticeable on Switch either.

Playing the Switch version at the moment. No performance issues to speak of. The resolution might not go as high as the PS5, but the game looks gorgeous anyway because of its art style, and the framerate is smooth.

Great game.

I will say, the OB64 comparisons are valid, but this game really amps up some of the rock-paper-scissors mechanics from Fire Emblem. There's not a weapon triangle, per se, but certain classes have major advantages over other classes (e.g. gryphon knights demolish cavalry, archers demolish gryphon knights, etc). And as opposed to Ogre Battle and OB64, where I generally had pretty stable squadrons that rarely changed, I am constantly swapping out my unit composition in the squads depending on the mission, because one or two units can make the difference between my squad barely doing any damage to the enemy, and wiping it out in one turn. There are alot more unit types that have inherent healing skills, so if you're not doing solid damage, the enemy may actually come out of the battle with more health than they started with, because their healing skills will activate.
