Does any body else have issues loading a string into these? I bought two of these and after finishing first string these no longer automatically extend the string.

Mine always get stuck. I just bought a bunch of replacement spools for about $1 a piece.

$1 Spool? No way! Could you please share where you purchased them?

I've never had issues. I'm on my second one, my mom is on number 3. We live in the south so they get used about 7-8 months a year. Mine is every weekend, mom is a yard queen so it's about every 3 days. Never had a feed failure if you wrap them correctly. She keeps a 10 pack of the caps because that's what she wears out until the motor burns up which is about every 5 years (she weed eats A LOT!) I've dropped mine in the pool and it still works so these things are tough. We'd been using LST420's until they quit offering them and had to switch to these 525's. I still use my LST420 batteries that are at least 10 years old now.

Yes! Every time I need more string I have to stop, take the cap off, pull on the string, and recap. Such a pain and I have only used Black and Decker spools.

These are a bit of a pain to reload like others said, but I also wanted to share with the group that there's also some aftermarket "trimmer blades" available if you want to use it as an edger - but be forewarned, you burn through those plastic things like crazy. Would like to find a similar kit in metal, but I haven't seen anyone making them so far yet.

On my 2nd one of these. The first lasted 6-7 years I think. 10-year-old batteries still work. In fact I used one today. Being able to rotate the trimmer where you can edge next to the sidewalk gives it that professional touch. It's a great product. I do use the cheapo Amazon replacement spools because they're so much cheaper but they also run out more quickly than the spool that comes with this kit. Only downside to this thing is the secondary handle gets slightly loose after a while and there's no way to tighten it that I know of. But a minor flaw.

Out of curiosity, with all that weed whacking, why in the world would you not be using something beefier like the 36-40v version of this? 20v seems extremely underpowered for 2024 considering battery tech now.

You should try a 20v recently. The harbor freight 20v trimmer blows this out of the water and is constantly cheaper than this

Is there a good battery deal or is there a way I can just return the trimmer?

I've had this trimmer for almost 10yrs. I also have a 40V Ryobi and 20V Dewalt trimmers. I find myself using the B&D more because it's lighter, easier to maneuver, and easier to extend the string with a push of a button. I bought aftermarket replacement strings and a bigger battery.
