The warranty is actually one year. That's what mine says in HP's warranty status checker. Might be two years if your credit card has additional insurance. If not, you should be able to extend to three years for ~$40 which are refunded if unused.

An old Pavilion refurb just died and I'd love this as a replacement because the Pavilion Plus body seems like a good approximation of the Envy/Spectre (and it doesn't hurt that I'm an OLED fanatic).

If you're asking me, I have no idea. I typically don't care much for MC deals as there is no store around me and even when I check the closest store (90 minute drive, each way) they're typically out of stock, so MC deals are real unicorns to me and highly YMMV.

You have 15 days to return. If you don't want to make the trip back you can even check at the store. A mangled OS sounds like a non-issue since it's good practice to clean-install Windows on a new laptop anyway and takes a total of 10 minutes.
I thought you meant there is some substantial difference to open-boxes, like less manufacturer warranty.

I'm not talking about defects. That's covered by the return policy. I was referring to something fundamentally wrong, like warranty being shorter (it isn't) or the battery being worn out (it's 100% capacity).
