I have this exact hatchet. It's great for making small pieces of tinder for fires from logs.

Had it for years and use it occasionally. It has kept it's sharp edge for the most part.

Would purchase again.

Good camping/hiking hatchet?
Hatchet, yes, but if I were just getting one, I'd grab a slightly longer camping axe (~16-20"). It's small enough for one handed use, but big enough for two handed use.

Fiskars used to make the axes for Gerber. I don't know if they still do.

Harbor Freight actually sells a well regarded hatchet with a more ergonomic handle:

If you do want to go one handed shorty, the IsoCore Maul has the power for splitting, can cut kindling (although some compromise), and hammers.

Holy crap. This reminded me of a hammer I bought from slickdeals from some shady site and it still hasn't arrived.

https://www.target.com/p/fiskars-...A-52860346 on sale for $21 and from the description, seems to be the same exact thing as the x7 but maybe marketed for different retailers

too short, only good for woodwork/crafting. No power, no leverage...get at least a 19-20 inch handle then you can do serious tasks like chopping or delimbing trees

I have had a Fiskard hatchet (maybe a slightly longer one) since like 2015. Litterally chopped up a tree that fell due to a storm into pieces (was too stubborn, young, and poor to rent/buy power tools).

Long story short - this thing is indestructible given how lightweight it is.

Good find. After reading some reviews I'm going with the black handled one from target. Looks nicer, a little lighter and people say it chops just as well.
