alright guys I too got screwed over by the not logged in while purchase because what do you know, the playstation store and playstation direct are not the same website and you need to actually log in twice to actually purchase. Despite buying with the same email account and address and phone number and credit card information the rep cannot 'link my purchase to my account" at the moment and advised me to return and repurchase to get the Netflix promo. I was willing to do so, but now PS direct hit me with a "Thank you for your interest in direct.playstation.com experience. Unfortunately we are unable to process your transaction. Please visit one of our retail partners error"

I don't believe there was an option when signing up, but you can change the plan to a lower tier (at least they have the option to, I don't know if you can actually do it). Once the credit is applied to your account, it shouldn't expire.

Wait I'm confused isn't your PSN account and PlayStation direct account the same account. It is for me at least.

They shipped my PS5 yesterday, will be here tomorrow, and today I received my Netflix email. My Netflix still had Apple billing, so I'm switching it to direct first, before I can apply the credits, good thing I got until 9/11 to do it.

August was the last date I had heard on that, but it was confirmed by Sony that it IS coming. I wouldn't be shocked if it sees a delay or two before landing though. Christmas shopping season could honestly be a good strategic time to bring that out, I would think.
