So what material is better?
aluminum is king for outdoor furniture, usually a set will be $1000+

This is the table that Home Depot is recommending to match with it.
that's a black table with a set of brown chairs, and the style doesn't match either.. no idea how they have that as "freq purchased together"

This doesn't even make sense for a lot of set ups.

Steel=garbage. This is the price that they should be at. Unless you like your outdoor furniture to rust in a couple years and leave stains everywhere. Which it appears a couple of you do.
Can second this. Bought these about 14 months ago and they have a lot of rust (Texas.) the screws rusted out within a few months and had to be replaced too.

Would spraying Rust-Oleum on these help with preventing rust?

Just bought the whole 7 pc set including the table Monday on sale for $500. Then they run this sale and the table is only $126. Paid an extra $124...

I looked up this idea of rust and got concerned since I bought me a set also. According to the website, they said the steel is powder coated rust resistant. Gemini said Powder-coated steel is highly resistant to rust, but the metal underneath can rust if water seeps under the protective layer or if excessive sunlight damages it. Powder coating can last for 20 years before needing to be reapplied. Also not one single review mentioned any issue with rust.

If it gets a scratch that penetrates beneath the coating then it's gonna rust from that scratch and spread, but it takes a long time to spread (under the paint) significantly, and you could surely sand the area down and fix it with some matte spray paint/clear coat... So yeah don't worry too much about a little rust

I'm sure it'll be fine.... I mean if there's excessive horse play where that's an actual risk then just tell them to take it somewhere off the chair... 300lbs is fairly strong for a chair like this

They can claim all the "rust" resistant they want...like a few folks have said, just a slight hairline chip will cause rust to spread if it is kept outdoors. I have a similar set i bought on clearance on a covered pergola. 2 years in, there is rust that formed on the foot. I should have known better. My aluminum outdoor set is 14 years old. The powder coating has chipped, but no rust. I was able to clean and use Rustoleum primer then repainted with rattle cans.

With my steel set, there are definitely a few weak rust spot, but not on the main structural area that I need time to go fix. I would say if you are in a coastal climate or very rainy climate pass for now.
