Great deal. I bought this one a little while ago for a much higher price. It's been a beast of a hedge trimmer so far.

My local HD has two of them on the clearance rack - been there for 2 months at this point. Wish I had more shrub to justify replacing my corded Black and Decker I've got through SD many years ago :|

Is it worth spending a bit extra to go with a 40v trimmer?

do you have batteries for it? that's what would (did) make my decision.

I got the last boxed one at the Plano store in DFW (75&GWB). They still have a display that's marked with the clearance price, someone could probably snag it for a bit cheaper.

My B&D 20V 'MAX' has been good to me for the most part, but it can definitely choke on larger branches or if you give it too much at a time.

I'm tempted by this because of the B&D's age (7 years now, pretty impressed), and because I already have some 18V LXT batteries, but this Makita apparently has two safeties that have to be depressed to run it.. seems like if you take your second hand off, it'll stop running: no one-handed reaching to the top of a large shrub..

Probably only if you have 40V batteries or want to cut really thick hedges. I was impressed with the cutting ability of this one. Keeps up with my gas Stihl for 95% of the bushes.

Literally waited last 2-3 years for this one to drop in price as I have a pile of Makita 18v batteries for other of their tools...this damn tool NEVER goes on sale. Finally bit the bullet 2 weeks ago cuz I wanted it for this season and bought it for, yes, $35 more...and now it finally goes on sale. FML. If you want it, don't hesitate...best price I've seen forever.

Wasted trip, should've known - my home depot is notorious for having bad inventory counts. Store showed 4 in stock, nowhere to be found.. and yes, I scoured all the normal spots they tend to put clearanced items.

I found them at the same place they keep normal inventory and not with the clearance items. Price was the sale price at checkout. Hope this helps.

First place I checked. I also checked the adjacent aisles/endcaps, the whole 'racetrack' (the main aisles in the store, where they tend to keep clearance/promotional stuff on pallets), the tool aisles, 3-4 other places they had similar outdoor power equipment near the front of the store... I even checked topstock in these places (not my first rodeo) - no joy.

I did ask, but the only 'help' I got was that it's somewhere on the racetrack. It was just nowhere to be found, and I wasn't about to drag an employee around to hunt for it across the whole store.

FWIW, my store had one display with a sticker that indicated they had been moved to a nearby endcap (battery yard tools are aisle 42 at my store). that's where I found my one boxed quantity they had left

dunno if that'll help anyone else

18v battery on this Makita is fine for trimming up to (I believe) 3/8" branches. It works fine for my holly and yellow thread shrubs but your eGo is likely way more versatile and powerful.

the description says 18v / 36v so i assume it can go up to 36 with batteries. i would think that would make it 2/3 really beast, which is pretty good

Brickseek accurate these days? Seems like they limit you to 2 stores unless you buy a membership?
