Most people will never use 90% of the features of these cameras, so very basic is probably "exceptional" in their book. This is a massive improvement over a mobile phone (other than not being pocket sized, obviously).

Can be paired with the Refurbished RF-S55-210mm F5-7.1 IS STM for a total price of $398. That's an excellent deal.

Aabd currently there is no camera close to this with these features. This camera is basically the old highly rated rebel t7i with 1st gen dual pixel auto focus, old but still one of the best. Put that into the mirror less and now newer rf-s system. A good combo for most people...

So I have an EOSR and it's kinda big to lug around for all family trips. Can I use the lenses I have for that (RF not RF-S)? It seems like I can but am not sure. To that point, would there be any benefit to using the RF-S lenses on the EOSR or RF lenses on the R100? I am tempted by this but am not sure if I should just keep using the EOSR and bear the weight.
All of your current lenses will fit on the R100, no problem. But there won't be any added benefits, either--they'll operate exactly the same way on the R100 as they would on the R.

As for using RF-S lens on a full-body camera like the R, it's not recommended unless you absolutely need to take a photo but forgot your RF lenses at home.

What you're basically doing is attaching a lens with an optical window smaller than the actual sensor. And I think that, rather than keeping photos with that cutout area, it'll just crop into the photo, effectively crippling the megapixel count of your photo.

And after Googling, I found that the apparent math for Crop-Sensor lenses on a Full-Sensor body works like this:

The area of the cropped FF would be 5/6 squared = 25/36 of the total area.

25/36 of 30MP (like the R) is 20.83MP

And for comparison, the R100 is 24.4 megapixels.

I'm confused as you keep talking about FF sensor, but this R100 is APS-C ?

RF-S lens not worth much
There's nothing inherently bad about RF-S compared to RF lenses.

One is just sized for APS-C sensors. That's it. Typically this means RF-S lenses are smaller, lighter, and more importantly for a price-conscious entry-level buyer.....cheaper.

Are you buying a camera to actually use or for a long term investment? Because whooo boy, don't drop serious money into entry-level camera gear hoping to retire off of it!

Not the right tool for live streaming: R100 [canon.com]
"The maximum recording time per movie is 29 min. 59 sec. Once 29 min. 59 sec. is reached, recording automatically stops."

The R50 on the other hand, does not have such a limit.

that's why it's better to get RF and not RF-S.

To add a bit more info: using RF lenses on a "cropped" sensor ASP-C camera like the R100 will be more "zoomed in" than they normally would be when used on a regular full-frame camera. The zoom factor is 1.6x.

So when using an RF lens on the R100, a 50mm lens (RF lens - designed for full-frame sensor) would be equivalent to an 80mm lens when used with the R100's cropped (smaller) sensor, because 50 times 1.6 is 80.

So if you wanted the equivalent of 50mm on an R100 using an RF lens, you would need to get an RF lens that was around 30 or 35mm which could get you an approximate 50mm equivalent.

In March, I purchased the refurbished R100 with the kit lens (RF-S 18-45mm), plus the refurbished RF-S 55-210 lens for $150 after discount, for about $450 total, ~$485 with tax.

So the current deal is even better, since the 55-210mm lens was $50 more back then.

I then bought a refurbished Canon RF-S18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS Lens on eBay for $375 and now I pretty much only carry that lens around with me at all times. It covers all the range I need, almost the entire range of both of the other 2 lenses I bought.

In hindsight I wish I had just skipped buying the extra 55-210 lens, since it's so much easier to just carry around the one lens and not have to fiddle with switching lenses when you're out and about.

Overall, I love the camera. It's lightweight and has pretty much all the new technology of Canon's other more expensive cameras, except for a few features that I would probably never use anyway.

I feel that for the low price, you really can't beat it. I've already gotten my money's worth just from all the photos I've taken on a few trips and events over the last 2 months.

For an entry-level, point and shoot, "real" camera, this is a great one to get.

And if you think you might end up buying the RF-S 18-150mm lens in the future like I did, then I'd recommend skipping this $299 package with the kit lens altogether and just buy the R100 body for $250, and find a used 18-150mm on eBay.

I paid $375 because the seller was a photographer guy who seemed honest and said the lens came in the kit for the brand new R7 he bought. He had old EF lenses already but wasn't sure if they'd work fine at first. It seemed legit and the lens came looking brand new and working great. I had a conversation with the guy before purchase and I felt comfortable.

But if you're more adventurous you could find cheaper used 18-150mm lenses on ebay or elsewhere and then with R100 body you might only be in for $500 or so total for an amazing complete kit.

I just picked up an Insta360 Link to upgrade my office webcam. While not apples to apples on price, this puts a DSLR in the same ballpark. Any recommendations of if I should return the Insta and go for something like this?

I have a Canon EOS RP that I adore but the 600mm doesn't always have the reach I need. I was going to buy the 1.4x adapter but the R100 body was less expensive than the glass and I don't lose light.

It's crazy that you can get a decent camera body for $250.
With a 1.4 you are actually losing light. Normally a full f-stop or maybe two. I used one to shoot Aerosmith last fall and there's a price for it. Now a 1.4 teleconverter is certainly cheaper in your tool belt than a 800mm+ lens I'm sure. You trying to catch your clients' wives having affairs?
