I can't tell you personally that these are still used by older attorneys to dictate briefs and all kinds of stuff. Ive seen high caliber professional even use this to narrate and dictate their day to an assistant, throw the tape (before these were digital) and that is their task for all of the next day...and so on.

I used them to dictate criminal defense legal bries but now I just use Google Keep or, better yet, Google Recorder to do all of it now. No assistant needed. The app transcribes it on the fy.

I'm speculating but it's probably for better battery life due to lower draw or it's a spec part that Sony has.

Oled at this scale is cheap as heck. You can get little single color i²C powered ones from aliexpress for like 2 bucks. They look nicer and are more versatile than comparable LCD solutions

Idk if it's the same one but here's an example: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/22...2065QsaM3e

OLED has high contrast and is very cheap for small low resolution displays.

You can purchase a similar display on aliexpress for under $2.

It's frankly just the 'right tool for the job' in this case.

... basically, this is like saying 'why LCD' on those $2 solar calculators. Because LCD works well for that, thats why.

OLED is viewable at any angle, spending a little more on the BOM to minimize returns due to visibility issues is good business.

I used to work for my local Sheriff office. The detectives used these for conducting interviews and interrogations.

I can also see a vlogger use one of these as a backup audio source.

I hate a mini cassette tape version of one of these for recording violin lessons growing up lol. Now everyone has a smartphone. Wonder if the audio on these is really good or what's the draw
