Solid deal but OOS for me. You can get the M2 mini from Apple student store for $500 without any student verification required.

These consume so little power at idle (not to mention being very efficient under load) which make them very useful for running background tasks 24/7.

Looks like they're out in both Rockville and Vienna.

Only place I see that has them is IND.
Yeah I checked yesterday and no dice. Sad!

Just picked it up from a Microcenter and set up the machine. It was sealed in the original Apple box and looked brand new when opened, but for some reason the warranty date was set to expire in November. I had to call Apple and speak to two advisors before they fixed the purchase and the warranty date for me.
Just set mine up and getting the Nov expiration date. Who did you call and what did they need??

Click on the 'Details' button next to your warranty date in settings, click again on the details button there which will take you to the Apple website. It will probably say Apple can't verify your purchase date and when you put in the date, it will say they need to verify this. You have an option to have them call you there, as well as an option to upload a screenshot of your receipt from Microcenter (which you should).

Got this yesterday in St. Louis Park, MN. Even though it says OOS on website. Rep was able to get it by checking stock inside. They only charged $350 + tax.

I didn't. It was just a 8GB machine to do lots of chrome tabs (maybe 10-20) and Citrix.

It's not even playing Netflix because there's a TV in that same room.

It was a $99 upgrade after I already use the M1 Mac Mini for almost 2 years so it was like renting the M1 Mini for $5 a month so far so I upgraded it to M2 Mac Mini same 8GB config.

Most of the time my machines are idle . Maybe 1 hour an day if that that I am making my machine work but the rest of the time the CPU/GPU is pretty idle.

But when I work that 1 hour, I need it to be fast enough so I can slack off after!
This is not a bad strategy. I'm debating picking up a MacOS device for the first time (I've had iPhones, Apple Watches and Airpods for years) but have been on Windows for my PC needs. I'm looking at either a Mac Mini or a Macbook Air. But I like your idea of trading in to upgrade the next model for a small fee to always keep the newest hardware.

Last year they offered $100 Apple gift card with the back to school promotion on Mac mini M2 ($499 edu price for base model -$100 GC). This year's back to school promo should start soon and there's a good chance they will have the same deal again.

Why is everyone here so desperate for this deal all of a sudden? We had plenty of deals like this, if not better, even years ago and it barely saw much attention then.
