I have this, and it's been crazy reliable for a year and a half. Cleaned it about 3 times since then. Probably should do it more often, but no issues whatsoever. (Used about 3 times a day). Also I don't see any reasons whatsoever to go for more expensive models. Additional features are at best "nice to have"
I have both in two different homes. Both have lived for more than 3 years by now. Phillips is more watered down in general even at highest concentration but much more consistent coffee and much easier to clean and there is no brew mechanism to remove and wash. Just a tablet every so often and you are done. Delonghi has a better espresso cup (large coffee is probably same and personal flavor) but when making coffee you are limited with one cup at a time and you have to push a button again to fill a mug while the Phillips allows 2 cups together. Minor things but life changing when you have both.
In short I prefer the ease of the Phillips menus and ease to clean but the texture of the delonghi espresso (not the large coffee).
Love mine. Going on 3 years I think. I did the math out and it pays for itself vs a $150 Keurig in like a year. Plus you get better coffee in the process. Cleaning is very simple. I rinse the brew unit over 1-2 weeks in the sink and leave it out overnight to dry. Did the descale once and almost no scale (great municipal tap water plus a high quality filter at my sink). I'm guessing we have run 2,500 drinks through this since I usually do a latte plus a coffee just to fill up my mug.
I also have a breville barista pro which I never use - better espresso but I don't have the time with 3 kids plus I make my wife a drink each morning is so much easier pressing a few buttons

This is a quality machine, but like any superautomatic machine, it requires some simple maintenance. The first thing to know with any superautomatic machine is to thoroughly rinse the brew unit whenever you empty the puck drawer. Secondly, only use non-oily beans such as any variety of Lavazza espresso beans. They offer a variety of darkness and intensity. Oily beans are the enemy of all superautomatic machines... even the $2,000 variety. Philips owns Saeco and Gaggia machines which are the top selling brands in Italy. I can personally attest that with proper operation and maintenance you will have quality espresso, especially suited for lattes, and you will enjoy a huge savings with whole beans compared to capsules. This is a super deal on a superautomatic!
Got any good suggestions on non-oily beans?

Any medium roasted will do. My favorite is Lavazza Super Creama.

If you have a Chase Freedom or Chase Freedom Flex card, this April - June there is 5% cash back on Amazon purchases making the final price $427.47, plus sales tax, if applicable to you. Because these Chase cards are Visa Signature cards, a 1-year extended warranty benefit is included above Philips' 2-year warranty for a total of 3 years of warranty coverage.

Add me to the "have owned it for quite awhile and it works great, just maintain it" group.

I use a dedicated toothbrush to really clean the brew unit and the surrounding area. Wet grounds get in all the nooks and crannies. You can buy a large tube of the food safe grease they include a tiny tube of.

Ours gets used 4-5x/day. Turned it right before posting this comment Smilie

If you buy this machine, don't go and try a standalone milk frother. You're going to like the machine less. A cheap milk frother makes a way better creamy/frothy milk which makes the drinks more enjoyable. Compromises are expected for an all-in-one I guess. If I can do it again, I rather get a smaller unit that just does the espresso and use a standalone milk frother.

There is a big difference between frothing and steaming. The Philips steamed milk easily outshines a milk frother for lattes in my experience.

The coffee flavor is stronger out of the Breville, or any half auto espresso machine.

One more thing.a note from from crate and barrel

I have had mine for 4 years. Use it 3 times a day. If it breaks, I'll buy another in a heart beat.

Starting to get tired of buying Nespresso pods constantly. How good do these work? Seems its a great price point to jump in on this
Extremely well. They last 10 years and parts are super cheap and easy to replace.

There is a mod to reduce the orifice size that improves the foam.

Was just researching this machine a couple of days ago, the consensus is it is making a meh watered down espresso even at max settings

Evidently its grinder doesnt grind fine enough for a fine espresso. Another reason is that it uses only 7.9g of coffee for each shot at max settings and there is nothing you can do abt it.

There is a break-in period for the brew group. It will take probably 50 brews or so before the coffee will start to taste decent. Before that, the espresso shots will be barely drinkable and the puck will be a watery mess. You can also brew without beans during the break in period to save money. Only adjustment at this time is to increase water temp. That's all.
