These rolls have gone down in size drastically. From my last roll of the last package to the new rolls, the amount of sheets is about half.

Found the last roll of my previous batch bought from Costco pre-pandemic...Left is before and Right roll is purchased about a month ago....

Original roll has 60 sheets and clearly thicker as the center tube is much smaller compared to the recently purchased on the right. The sheet count and coverage area numbers are deceiving to trick you in thinking i'ts only 9% less. compared to the actual amount of material thickness of the original roll, it's about 50% as i've stated.

it sure don't look like 9% less to me.

For most work I do (I don't work on cars save for the annual oil change), the Kirkland kitchen towels have: more strength, better absorption, and a lower price.

I'm moving away from these because they're just more expensive and are less good for working on bicycles than their kitchen towels.

Half?! According to a reddit user, they said it shrunk from 43 sqft to 39 about 7 months ago

Do you have old packaging to confirm?

No need to guess, the image shows the square footage. The difference between is between 47.6 and 39.5 square feet, which comes out to about 18.6%.

You are only comparing two dimesions to get to 18.6% forgetting about thickness (which counts, ask your wife). A papertowel is 3 dimesional so you need that 3rd dimesion to compare size.

I think a decent enough approximation would be to weigh both rolls and divide by total area to get the density. Anything more accurate would require some more specialized equipment.

The area decreased by 18%, so we'd expect the weight to decrease by about 18% as well. It's not perfect because you're also weighing the cardboard roll and the plastic, but it should be close enough to get an idea.

You should also factor in weight as well. Square footage shouldn't be the only factor as the thickness will also help determine value.

Can we just simplify it and cut some 50mm squares out of both and weigh them?
