I think it has always been 24 months. The Sapphires I believe are 48 months.
You have to earn the 125k points in the same calendar year to get the companion pass. Best practice for companion pass is to get the Biz around Nov, complete your spend dec so your bonus points post in Jan. Also get the personal in Dec and complete your spend so your bonus posts in Jan. This way you get to keep the pass for a full 24 months.

My understanding about 'how long do I wait after I cancel my current card' to reapply?' is this...
If you wait 31 days, you should be fine.
Otherwise, if you want to reapply sooner, it might depend upon your statement close date. So, if your statement close date is the 17th of the month, and you cancel your current card on the 10th of the month, I think Chase still considers this active through the 17th....so you wouldnt want to reapply on or before the 17th. My understanding is that if you waited a few business days after the 17th, it would probably work.
(I don't work for Chase, but that is my understanding of it).
Noob to these types of cards...that $3000 spend in the first 3 months - limited to POS and online purchases or car payments, mortgages, utilities, or other bills? Thanks.

So if I sign up and earn the 85k points bonus but won't need to use points for a while, say a year or two, will I lose points if I cancel card after meeting requirements? If not how do you access the points? Do they go on to your southwest account separate from the credit card account once earned?

The points go onto your southwest account after each billing cycle and will stay there. You will not lose the points.
This is about good of bonus as it's get, without waiting for the year end bogo deal. Don't forget about the 10k referral bonus from a spouse that has an account already.
How do you end up getting that bonus? Is there a spot on the application to put the referral info?
I was recently told by multiple people at Chase (or whoever the customer service number is) you are only eligible for 1 cardholder bonus every 24 months and not 1 for each card you get. Anyone know if this is true?
Edit...never mind. It appears this is what the MDD was in the past, 2 bonuses with multiple personal cards.

Also, anyone use this to pay for hotels?
If you are after cash back/cash equivalent, the current Sapphire Preferred promo may be more to your liking.

If you have the card, you can generate a referral link from the Chase app.
