Oud Perfumes: These fragrances prominently feature oud as one of the main scent notes. Oud, also known as agarwood, is a highly aromatic and luxurious resinous wood that imparts a rich, woody, and often slightly medicinal scent. Oud perfumes tend to be complex, intense, and have a distinctive oriental character. They are often sought after for their uniqueness and opulence.
Non-Oud Perfumes: These fragrances do not contain oud as a primary note. Instead, they may feature a wide range of other ingredients, such as floral, fruity, spicy, or woody notes, depending on the specific fragrance composition. Non-oud perfumes can vary greatly in scent profile, ranging from light and fresh to deep and sensual, depending on the combination of ingredients used by the perfumer.

Oud is a note, just like jasmine, lemon, lavender or mint. It's a darker note that can range from medicinal to animalic. In simplest terms, it could be compared to woody incense, but it's a lot more complex than that. Ouds pair well with floral scents, most commonly rose, and also with leather, honey and berries. Ouds blended with other notes can range from light enough to wear on all but the hottest summer days (these are rare), to having the room-clearing firepower of the honey-patchouli bombs of the 1970s. It's generally worn late fall, winter and early spring. Houses that feature broad lines of ouds include Montale/Mancera and Swiss Arabian.

Because production of oud involves the death of rare trees, it is banned in some places and it is often synthesized, not unlike oak moss.

Oud is very subjective. Might not be everyone's cup of tea. Would advise to try out a tester from Macy's or similar places before blind-buying.

This scent smells very similar to Tom Ford's Oud Wood -- but sweeter.
If you're a fan of Oud Wood or have smelled it, this one may smell a bit like a "cheaper imitation" in comparison. I personally prefer Oud Wood to it, but Oud Wood is also many times more expensive. With that said, this is about 90% similar to oud Wood.

Some consider Oud Wood to smell like 💩, others will claim it's the most professional scent you can wear to an office, to the point it almost sounds like they're straight up trolling.

Oud is not for everyone. I love Oud, it does smell like 💩 or a barn, or a rotting piece of wood, but theres just something about it that gets me hooked on it.

I bring this up to say: Oud is not for everyone. It can be described as "middle eastern" or "old man" or "millionaire", but generally I wouldn't recommend this for anyone under about 30.

Most Oud scents last forever! 12 hours, 24 hours, you just can't get rid of them! Oud Wood is unfortunately one that just disappears quickly. Versace Oud Noir is similar.. it lasts a bit longer, but still isn't going to hang around for the whole day.

TLDR: Might make you smell like poop (or like a millionaire). A sweeter Oud Wood with better performance, but not great. Not for everyone, but those who like Oud Wood will probably enjoy it!

For those in the know what is a good scent for summer? I know nothing about this stuff and recently got Haramain Amber Oud Tobacco Edition and really like the scent. I thought I read that was more of a winter scent and was wondering what might be comparable for summer.

Typically stuff like Spicy/Tobacco/Warm/Gourmand type scents tend to be called "winter scents" or night scents, etc.. but I still wear them any time. The problem with some are that they project a lot more when it's warm and can become overwhelming/cloying. Amber Oud Tobacco Edition is great!... but when it starts to be ALL that you can smell and comes at you strong all day, it can give you a headache (and bother others).

Summer scents tend to be stuff like "fresh", aromatic ones. Something like Tom Ford Grey Vetiver/Neroli Portofino/Mandarino di Amalfi, stuff like Dolce and Gabbana's Light Blue, Green Irish Tweed, Acqua di Gio, Terre De Hermes eau givree. Usually stuff that has a citrus'y smell to it as it comes off "fresh"

A lot of stuff can be had as knockoffs/dupes (similar to how Amber Oud Tobacco Edition is basically a dupe of Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille)

A few I'd recommend on the cheap:
Armaf - Club De Nuit Sillage (Creed Silver Mountain Water clone)
Kilian - Roses on Ice
One of the "Neroli Portofino" knockoffs

For the cheap stuff, Nautica Voyage is old and dated but easily found under $20

For the high end, the Louis Vuitton fragrances have a few good summer ones.

For the niche-side, maybe a dupe of Bvlgari's Tyger, which exist from a few brands (strong grapefruit scent)

Thanks! I really appreciate you taking the time to comment. I'm going to pick up one of the ones on the cheap you recommended to see what I like.
