Snagged one... I have a gas dryer and people have said they smell gas after I've used the dryer a few times during laundry days, but I never smell it.

I guess I'll find out now.

Any feedback on these? My home inspector said that gas detectors were basically worthless until you spend a few hundred.

I have one of these and it is alright. I smelt gas around my cooktop even when it was not being used, but no one else smelt anything. Bought this in the hope this would confirm - it does detect gas when I turn on one of the burners for a few seconds without lighting and keeping it near. But had no luck detecting the really weak smell that I was sensing. Long story short - does it work? Yes. Did it give me the peace of mind? Not really

Price seems good for this. But matches are way cheaper.

These Natural Gas detectors are junk. I use a detector that costs thousands and requires monthly calibration at work. Most Gas companies will offer no cost to you services including gas leak detection. Please call your gas company if you smell gas.

These are useful to determine where the leak is coming from. Not for measuring or detecting the amount of gas. They're good for a sanity check.

I have this exact one. My outdoor Weber natural gas grill has a small gas leak and I bought this to try and pinpoint the source of the leak. Even though I could smell the gas, this unit never detected any gas. It's possible I was using it wrong and I've been meaning to go back through the manual to see if I've missed some important step or setting, but haven't gotten around to it.

if it works it's good for my earthquake preparendness kit when you will not be able to get PG&E to come and test your line for a while after the big one.

My plumber use to just use a squeeze bottle of soapy solution. Squeeze around the joints and look for bubbles.

This is OK and can find big stuff, but for the little stuff/very faint smells you need the bubble solution with the applicator brush, and possibly a tiny mirror and flashlight.

I would see if a local library has any for loan. I know many have moisture cameras so maybe.

I had the exact same problem and experience. I actually think I nailed my issue down to a slightly bent knob, but the detector doesn't seem to be strong enough to pick up the faint smell I can detect myself. Just to make sure it even works I did hold it above the burner and let gas flow for a second before turning to ignite, and it did alarm very clearly. But I'd say by the time this thing picks up a gas leak you've probably already smelled it 10x over. That makes this relatively useless IMO.
