At first a ultralight notebook in the business segment with good AMD processor looked quite interesting. But upon further examination it isn't too enticing.

First, the 7736U is a rebrand of 6850U (Pro version of 6800U) which came out in Jan 2022. So this is 2 year old technology. Both AMD and Intel are talking about the next generation with pretty good improvements all around slated for later this year.

Then according to notebookcheck, the SSD and WiFi modules are soldered. The SSD being soldered is especially bad, since flash storage do wear out. So HP is going the way of Apple, and that is a poor decision for longevity.

I noticed MicroCenter is selling the 32GB RAM + 1TB SSD version for $800. IMO $100 is worth the upgrade especially because neither is upgradable.

Also recall HP and Costco was selling a few Pavilions Plus 14 with 8840HS or 7840U (1 generation ahead) for roughly the same price recently.

All around it is an ok deal but not exciting.

So, it obviously has 5G capability. That's a nice item that is rare at this price point.

What are the things make this a SD?

3.42 lbs (1.55kg) seems slightly high given the size, but it's not terrible.

Interested as to why the wireless service says "WWAN LTE + 5G Ready (T-Mobile)" though, is it locked to T-Mobile somehow, or just works better on T-Mobile bands?

Also, does it have a SIM slot? Could be great for Google Fi subscribers like myself if so.

Curiously, it both does and does not have a fingerprint reader, according to the Adorama page.
