This is a nice set but don't buy it just for the figure, it is quite cheap and flimsy. I was expecting at least figma or revoltech quality but was ultimately disappointed

I would prefer they did not. A remake/update with better animation I would prefer. The original was a combination of 3 completely separate series. The transitions were quite jarring to say the least so a remake that smooth that out would be nice.

I can remember being such a huge fan of the original series and reading all the books in the 90s. At some point I even tracked down an old VHS of the sentinels offshoot.

Anyways, let's go defeat the Zentradi with the power of love and 2 or 3 pop songs

Having watched both, Macross was definitely better but having watched Robotech as a kid when it first aired almost 40 years ago was an experience I won't forget. It got me into anime and led me to Macross. I think I also bought the Macross dvd from Animeigo.

Just watch 10 minutes of each at a time and compare. World of difference between the two - speech, sound, music. Macek definitely was a genius in doing far more than a simple dub, so they're really not "the same" by any means.

Watching both is great for anime fans trying to better understand the cultural differences that appear in Japan anime, too.

Does anyone know if:

1) this includes the original Japanese episodes as well? I remember around 2000 - 2003 I had some VHS tapes that were 3 Robotech episodes and 3 Japanese original (Macross, Southern Cross, Mospeada) episodes..

2) If they changed sound effects either to "modernize it" or because original sound effects were lost

3) If the opening is the original Robotech opening (all 3 shows mixed together) or if it's the new versions that are specific to each Saga/Season?
