I recently murdered a 13mm ratcheting gear wrench by holding the top side of a bolt and then impacting the nut on the bottom. I knew it was a bad idea, but i was frustrated and didn't want to go back to the shop for a proper box end.

Much like life, Stupidity finds a way.
I kind of understand why this style of wrench tends to come with open ends... but I really wish they came with box ends. The long ones do. So I never carry ratcheting wrenches out to the car until I think they'll actually save the five minutes I spend going to get them. Funny, that only happens so often.

Brand loyalty. For $40 I'm not going to bother trying to figure out who makes these - I might be surprised to find that these aren't cheaper under a different color scheme, but I don't use my ratcheting wrenches enough for it to matter.

Edit: and I've been hitting my Walmart Stanley wrenches with hammers since 2003.

This set from Wen [amazon.com] is legit. 16 metric wrenches. No skips and made in Taiwan, not mainland China. Lifetime Warranty to boot

If you're going to work on cars, this is a much better value. Oh, and they're not stupid short like the Klein ones

Lowe's still trying to catch Home Depot. They're gaining but they still can't see the taillights. But I digress. I've never owned a set of ratcheting wrenches 🔧. They are always a little bit out of my willingness range to surrender my moola.

If only they made these offset too. I'll have to think about it and find something to meet the $49 threshold for free shipping, unlike Home Depot.

I don't recommend it, but technically you can use a hammer to impact the wrench.

Simple. Harbor Freight is poop.

I'm more concerned that the set is missing 9mm, 11mm, 16mm & 18mm...

Wanted to order a set of each -- turns out shipping would be $79 for the order!

I guess they haven't gotten with the 21st century and are afraid of using the postal system? It's not even that expensive for normal non-commercial customers to mail packages yet.

I walked into the Lowes in Sanford, Maine, to get this - it showed it as being there online, for the advertised $40 price, but when they scanned it it came up as $58. It seems weird that I would have had to go home, purchase it through their website, and then go back to get it (or have it delivered) when I was already right there, money in hand, but that's Lowes for you. They never seem to be able to get their crap together between their website and their actual stores.
