Hey all, the promo is actually just for this specific opener. You have to buy this chamberlain opener to get the $49 install. Other brands don't qualify.

For example, a genie opener still has the $138 install fee.

I'm thinking you would need to buy the new opener + the install (and have the person install the one you already have) and then return the opener you bought online.

I install these myself, at least they get done correctly. Most HD installers have been total crap since COVID.

Go through the service part of the web site and go through the garage door opener installation list. When you buy the combo (opener and installation), the price for installation does go down to $25 (usually Genie promos) more than what the opener cost alone. Also it varies by location. I also know Home Depot and Menards uses the same 3rd party companies for their installation services, and some of those guys around here are a little sketchy. An example would be when I left him alone in the garage (hung door repair), the guy was more interested in scoping everything out in my garage (while on the ladder), than loosening up the spring.

Be aware for this specific SKU (opener itself, 1010096630):

+ belt-drives are WAY quieter and so much better than old chain ones
+ has bluetooth control
+ battery backup so works after power outages (remote only)
+ camera
~ price is OK for features, not great, not poor
- some camera features need subscription
- integrated LED (~75W of brightness) doesn't need replacing which is nice BUT if unlucky and it goes out early, whole unit must be replaced (also can't add own bulbs if you want it brighter)
- must use proprietary app

I will also add that self-installation can range from mildly annoying to incredibly annoying, especially solo, so IMO a 50 buck installation is really nice.

Just saying this to let some folks know: I was able to install a Genie Garage Door Opener by myself using two ladders. The second ladder supported the opener while I hooked things up to the door and the 12 foot ceilings. It would be easier with a second person, but possibly by yourself. I am NOT a true DIY and know my limits around the house...hahaha.

Sometimes it can be a pain to be on standby for contractors to show up.

Now that I am older, I'd rather fork out the $49 and watch someone else do it for me while I'm drinking a cold one and saying 'Yep...'

Has anyone been able to purchase the service only? Already have 2 openers.
I believe the install fee is $139 for Home Depot. That is what they charged me when I bought a different model.

I think this model is a good deal but it has too many bells and whistles that I don't need. The customer reviews show that only 63 percent of the purchasers recommend this model.

The less expensive Genie model that I ended up buying has a 95 percent recommendation rate. But I did pay full price for the install. Deduct another $50 if you buy it with a new Home Deport credit card.

Can anyone confirm that a different opener can be provided and this one returned? I have a new opener in box that I've been meaning to get around to and would gladly pay $50 to have it installed.

They'd go bankrupt if they had to install everyone's garage door opener for $50. They are just doing it with this particular model as they make a good amount of money on the purchase price.

I took advantage of this offer a few years ago and it is well worth it. The installation went smoothly. The installer says HD pays him $200 to do the install. So, I felt good knowing he made money and I saved money.

Isn't there an issue with all HD openers having pierced together rails as opposed to single piece like you would get from local
