This is packaged in plastic, not cans so doubt it's a good choice for long term storage/emergency stash.

Also, it's 1130mg of sodium in only 200 calories per pack. That's not ideal either.

Dinty is good compared to Hormel (dog gravy)
This stuff is better to stash away than all the pasta garbage in overpriced, emergency food buckets

I think you meant Armour, Dinty is Hormel.

Nice stacking. I love these and did the same. $1.99 was pre-pandemic price. 3 pack of these at walmart near me is now $6.28. I haven't bought these in a couple of years because of that.

Are there any redeeming qualities for why this is still being sold?

I get that it's cheap, but there's plenty of other cheap alternatives that actually have dietary requirements that weren't established in the 30s.

It's actually pretty well balanced aside from having way too much sodium? I'd like one less gram of saturated fat, that's about it.

The "beef pot roast" one is slightly nutritionally better and has better quality beef in it.

What's the baseline comparison on this?

Keep in mind, we aren't talking prepper nutrition, so it doesn't have to be shelf stable — just cheap.

It's basically just root vegetables and beef. 12g of protein, 7g of fat and 21g of root vegetable carbs with some fiber and almost no added sugar. Only 200 calories. It's pretty normal. The sodium is insane, of course, but it is in all shelf stable food like this.

Not sure what the thumbs down on my previous comments are for, but to reiterate:

What is the next "best" thing you're comparing this to when you decide this is the most nutritionally beneficial meal for the price?

I don't know dude, how about you just tell me what I'm supposed to eat at all times, instead of this shelf stable convenience food that requires zero prep, so I don't have to deal with another shifted goalpost.

Yeah cans of this were my jam back in the day. Anyone know if it's more or less the same as 20+ years ago? I'm not sure if that would be a good thing or not though as I tend to discovered old things I loved that no longer bring me joy laugh out loud
