I've noticed Amazon is adding a lot of things to the nonreturnable category over the past year.

It is a myth that CO sinks. It is actually slightly lighter than air. Regardless of the weight, it disperses evenly within air. You can put a CO detector at any height in a room.

Non-returnable due to Hazmat safety reasons.

I've ordered smoke alarms and CO detectors from Amazon in the past, but I don't remember seeing this warning.

Are First Alert like Kidde branded detectors where once they reach their 7-10 year set expiration date they start beeping and become useless? If so, wonder what Amazon expiration date for these are.

Which is interesting because you can buy used models of CO400 & CO605 from Amazon Warehouse.

I think it's a good question about the expiration. My understanding is that most, if not all CO detectors will expire at some point. They use an electrochemical sensor which becomes less sensitive to CO after a certain time, usually between 5-7 years. I am not clear, though, if it the clock starts ticking once it is powered up, or if its shelf life is that span.
