"This means no new DJI products would be approved in the US going forward, cutting you off all the latest innovations by the company. And the DJI drones currently approved for the US may also be grounded in the future. The bill could also add any software capable of operating on DJI products to the Covered List, including software produced by US software developers, subjecting them to the same restrictions.
That said, it's important to note that the "Countering CCP Drones Act" is not likely to have an immediate impact on your current drone fleet and the software you use. However, we cannot ignore the fact that the FCC has the power to create a process to revoke the equipment authorizations for your existing drone models in the future.
As per the proposed legislation, the federal government could decide at any point that you are no longer allowed to fly the DJI drones or software that runs on DJI drones you have already purchased, no matter if you are flying for business, public safety, or even recreationally.
The drone maker estimates that the financial impact of such a ban could be as high as $116 billion. Cutting the leading manufacturer out of the drone market would also lead to rising costs and product shortages for all users. It also takes a life-saving tool out of the hands of first responders, putting lives on the line."
This is also likely to pass, because almost no bills have bipartisan support, and this does, which is not a good thing. But you can't feel too sorry for DJI because they lied about getting billions in subsidies from the CCP and they were warned for years for their app to stop requesting WAY more permissions than is required and phoning that data home.
DJI drove a lot of their competitors out of business thanks to that government backing, but with other governments fighting back now, its likely that competitors like Parrot and Autel might be able to capture more marketshare and as such become more profitable.
That said, I ended up not doing it but am still pissed. Plenty of loud visitors and litterers that would have a much bigger footprint than me and my mini 2 drone.
CCP is the low bar.
How about a doΓchebΓg neighbor flying their lame drone over your house/property undergoing renovations( when you are not home) then at a block(community) party comes up to you and says "hey, we flew our drone over your house and pool to see what you are building in it, but can't figure it out...what is this item(shows you picture)".
Yes, that's the reason.
(We will not even get into the potential creeps doing this over minors)

Costco buyers are going to be in for a surprise when they get it home and look for the Android app...my guess is they pull the product from the shelves since there is no app.
Buy it while you can, I guess.
not sure if you already knew. the Chinese can easily reset that battery cycle life. including any Mac address or serial number to clone your every own existing product. and yeah, wiping the finger prints and resealing it with their package sealer is the easiest step of all.
And you cannot have a more robust and competitive market, when you ban a superior product. You just lower the threshold low enough for shit products to flood the market. Yes, US drones (commercial grade) are shit products.
