As a dentist, if someone wants to oil pull, go ahead, it should have some benefits of reducing plaque and bacterial load in the mouth. Patients swishing for 10+ minutes is already quite the miracle, though realistically they a probably wasting 7+ minutes. You likely only need to do it for 2-3 minutes for the benefits.
On the other hand, if someone wants to use it to replace brushing and flossing, that simply doesn't make sense and is a bad idea. Swishing even for a long time simply does not have the ability to loosen up plaque and debris like brushing and flossing does.
In addition, if they are using it based on thinking it does things like detoxifying the body, whiten teeth or even wild ones like treating cancer and stopping headaches, then they are wasting their time.
Nothing wrong with the practice, just don't fall for the myths about it and don't think it replaces proven methods oral health care. The placebo effect and confirmation bias needs to be something on is on guard about with something like this.

Cut down brushing my teeth/toungue to once or twice a week. Tried "coconut oil pulling" 6 months ago, never looked back. Have the best oral hygiene in my house.
If you do know about c.o.p I highly recommend doing your own research. Was a game changer for me.

Similar to mouthwash, just swishing oil instead
Yes, I do c.o.p. when I wake up and do it for 10 to 15 minutes every morning afterwards I do scrape my tongue. But, I still brush my teeth twice a day and floss my teeth twice a day. I have to have that clean feeling after flossing and brushing my teeth.

I prefer the plastic tongue scrapers with the brushing nubs on the back. Brush with the back then scrape with the front. The plastic scrapers are sharp enough to get the job done but not so sharp as to hurt/damage your tongue. It's way too easy to scrape your tongue to bleeding with these metal ones and still not get nearly the same quality of results.
