I don't know anything about Wyze v4.

I have several of the Wyze V3s and several of the Tapo C120s, and they're all good, but the C120s are better for my use case:

Tapo pros:
Reliable live view
Reliable recording to microsd
Native RTSP support
Easy access to microsd recordings by zooming in on timeline or playing at 4x
AI includes vehicles, pets, and people
Tapo cons:
No rich notifications in mobile app

Wyze v3 pros:
Reliable live view
Reliable recording to microsd
Rich notifications
free cloud backup of 12 second event videos
cons:
5-minute cool-down period between notifications
AI for people only
Tedious to find events that occur during cool-down period without pulling microsd
No native RTSP, but there are workarounds like Tinycam pro

Overall, if you want live view and microsd recording just-in-case then they both work fine. If you're fine with the 5-minute-cool-down-period then Wyze v3 has better notifications. If you need to regularly review events that could happen more frequently than every 5 minutes (i.e. did mailman come 2 mins after a car drove by) then Tapo is the way to go.

Both offer more features if you pay monthly, but I can only speak to the free plans.

PSA: For those only on Cam Plus Lite (discontinued for new users earlier this year), be aware there is an app bug (which is affecting more & more people as time passes), where adding/activating a new cam to your account - such as a v3, will either cause the "Playback" button during Events to be greyed out (if on an older version of the app) or will say there is no MicroSD Card installed (if on the newer/latest version of the app).

Viewing Playback with a MicroSD Card through Live View still works, it's only the Playback (direct view to timestamp on SD card) in the Event Clips that is bugged.

So users now have to either write down or memorize the exact time, then go to Live View, then Playback & scroll to the time to see the full event (before & after the 12 second clip).

This bug first appeared around February 2024, a Wyze Employee claimed in April they found the cause, but so far there is still no fix & honestly doesn't look like they'll fix it since we're on the free grandfathered Cam Plus Lite subscription.

Here are some of the more active threads about this issue:

I loved my Wyze cams over the years, they were cheap simple and just worked.

Pre-ordered V4 off their site, apparently it came with a free subscription that was activated at purchase, I was billed a month later and even after contacting their CS they would not refund me. Note that the cams weren't even opened yet. Y u do dis wyze?

Their move to aggressive sub models is gross.

Thanks for listening to my sadpepe story.

I did not know that! Thank you very much. Big rep to you. I thought I lost it after I activated the trial Cam Plus. Now I added all the V3s to the Cam Plus Lite too. Do you happen to know if Cam Pan v3 and Cam OG work with Cam Plus Lite?

I can confirm that you can use the 3-month Pro and then go back to Lite.

yes but so many issues with Google Home:
  • Not showing all cameras. It randomly shows some cameras and when you refresh, it shows others
  • Longer load time to show the live views
  • When you choose one Cam and then go back, it again takes a lot of time to load the live views
  • You need a TV with Chromecast
But it is an option for sure.

Probably they do not sell in-store. You have the item numbers so call your local warehouse stores and ask if they have them. it seems they are shipped by the vendor, and it says ONLINE PRICE

I just checked and my 32GB card stores about 2 days and 22 hours, not even close to 2 weeks.

I order items regularly and they always arrive on the initial estimated date, I am within 5 minutes from one of the warehouse stores. Not sure how they fulfill online orders though.
You sure a 32gb card only stores about 3 days? I remember a while back it stored like 2 weeks before it starts erasing older footage. This was years ago though. Someone else said my numbers sound right I am pretty sure I am talking about recording continuously as it wouldn't make sense for it to be anything else.

Is there something I'm missing here? I can't imagine it records for up to 2 weeks another way or is there?

They are selling this exact wyze cam 3 on amazon site for $30 correct?

https://www.amazon.com/Vision-Ind...184&sr=8-3 [amazon.com]
Can someone here confirm the wyze cam 3 being sold on costco online is this same wyze cam 3 on amazon? Or is this one on amazon different?

So you can't buy the wyzecam 1 or wyzecam 2 anymore on amazon?

I had the same question about Pan V3. I don't have the OG, so I don't know either.

I am 100% sure. I constantly check them. I have one at the entrance that I use to clock in and out people and I did not have any footage from Tuesday when I wanted to verify their submitted timesheets on Friday night.

Yes, years ago the quality was way lower. I just checked my V2 and a 32GB had footage for 7 days and 6 hours. But not on my V3s.

Yes, it is the same camera but the Costco one comes with 3 months cloud too and is $10 cheaper.

Why are you looking for V1 and V2? I have two brand-new V2s that I can sell them to you if you pay for the shipping yummy

Someone said neither one worked with Cam Plus Lite

Okay can others confirm here that years ago with the wyzecam 2 and a 32gb micro sd card, when you record it continously, it would record for around 2 weeks before it starts erasing older footage?

So the poster above says years ago the quality was lower and the v2 and 32gb micro sd had about 7 days before it would start wiping older footage. So that means because the v3 is better quality, now it is only about 2 days before a 32gb micro sd wipes itself? Can others confirm this? I recall it recorded 2 weeks before it started erasing older date with a 32gb micro sd card but the poster above said it is about a week.

So if you get 256gb micro card, expect the wyzcam v3 to record about 16 days before it erases older data? So what happens if you don't use a microsd card and only have the free cam plus lite? You do get those 12 second records with the 5 minute stop. You can also view the wyzecam live anytime you want.

The thing is you cannot view specific footage like from today or previous days then? Like say you want to view it from 12pm for a few minutes. You can't do this if you don't have either a micro sd card or the monthly plan right? If you pay for the monthly plan and say do it for a few months, you basically don't need to buy a micro sd card? Let say you want to have the same features now as the micro sd card but won't buy one say a few months later.

Thanks.

Good info. I didn't know about Tapo. Do you use it with their free plan or RTSP? I have four Wyze V3 on camplus lite, but I'm kind of annoyed with how some of it is broken (eg, playback button when you're in notifications) and am thinking of switching over to a RTSP setup of some sort, but would maybe consider just either running separate Wyze and Tapo instances -- or just switching over to Tapo if I don't go with RTSP.
I use microsd for all my recording with both Wyze and Tapo. If your frustration is accessing the microsd recordings, Tapo is far superior. You can play-back at X speed, zoom in and out of the timeline and download recordings to your phone.

I have pulled up the RTSP feed on my PC to check the Tapo cameras, but I don't record or have it running continuously. It does seem to get delayed if I leave it running too long. Could be my WIFI though.

How do these work as a Night time window Cam? My tapo cams are useless at night as a window cam because of the glare. I need a cam that won't put off a glare from the window at night.

If the cam is in a dark room, close to the window with IR lights turned off, there shouldn't be much glare.

I am getting sick and tired of these Wyze Cams. its been more than 3 months, i cannot view my camera, if I am not connected to home wifi. I cannot access them outside my house.

This is standard response from wyze

"We are aware of an issue, when you are not connected to your home WiFi you are unable to view your livestream.

Our developers are currently working to fix this issue. We apologize for the inconvience and frustration this may be causing you.

You can check on the status here."

I have a feeling, they want us to buy more from them, or get frustrated and ditch the wyze all together.

Does anyone feel the same.

I am thinking of Sticking it up to them . Order more wyze from costco or any good retailer and returning them. Keep doing it....Just keep doing it.

These people cannot be working on this issue forever and testing my patientce,

If enough of us do it, maybe they will realize that we mean serious business.

These cameras were installed, with the only purpose, is to view them when we are not at home and not able to view them outside, defeats the whole purpose.

What are your thoughts.

Thanks

So this is an issue with wyzecam 3 only? So you can't view your wyzecam while you are outside while you are using your phone carrier data?

How safe is it to use network connected devices like this? Could they allow someone to hack into your network, access your laptop, etc? I'm not worried about someone being able to see what the camera sees, just worried about it being a backdoor into my other devices that use the same network. (laptop, phone, tablet for example)

Does wyze camera allowed 24/7 save record to sd card without any subscription?
Yes. It works pretty well too. Just make sure to go with good name brand MicroSD, not Chinese off-brand. I have 128GB in all of mine except the front of the house which has a 256GB. The 256GB in my V3 Pro (2k recording) gets a little over 3 weeks of 24/7 recording before overwriting.
